Kien Giang competes to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses

PV: Housing support for poor and near-poor households is an especially important work, helping them gain more confidence and motivation to improve their lives and sustainably reduce poverty. How has Kien Giang province implemented this work in the past, sir?

Mr. Ngo Phuong Vu: Eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses is one of the major policies of the Party and State, thereby not only improving the material and spiritual life of the poor, but also demonstrating the responsibility of the whole society in poverty reduction and ensuring social security, in order to help the poor have the conditions to escape poverty and stabilize their lives.

Responding to the emulation movement "The whole country joins hands for the poor - No one is left behind", in recent times, the Party Committee, government, Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations at all levels in the province have paid attention to leading and directing the good implementation of social security work in the province. The Fatherland Front at all levels has proactively coordinated with member organizations to propagate and mobilize people from all walks of life, organizations and individuals inside and outside the province to actively contribute resources, achieving many important results.

The province always pays attention to and has many policies and strategies to support the poor and near-poor in socio-economic development in disadvantaged areas, remote areas, border areas, islands, and ethnic minority areas such as: providing social insurance, job creation, supporting loans for production, vocational training, building houses, helping thousands of poor households escape poverty, many households have an average and well-off life; many poor areas escape from difficult situations and strive to meet new rural standards... Since then, it has contributed to improving the material and spiritual life of the poor, the poverty rate of the province by the end of 2023 has decreased to 1.28% (5,990 households); near-poor households have decreased to 2.23% (10,438 households).

Responding to the Launching Ceremony of the Emulation Movement "Eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses" nationwide from now until 2025 organized by the Central Emulation and Reward Council in coordination with the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee proactively coordinated with the Provincial Emulation and Reward Council to successfully organize the Launching Ceremony of the Emulation Movement "Eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses" in Kien Giang province.

As a result, organizations, individuals, and businesses inside and outside the province committed to sponsoring 43 billion VND for the work of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the province. From the mobilized funds, the Provincial "For the Poor" Fund Mobilization Committee allocated to 13 localities in the province to build 780 solidarity houses for poor households.

PV: What are the specific goals according to the plan of the emulation movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the province, sir?

Mr. Ngo Phuong Vu: The emulation movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the province has been widely deployed, nationwide, comprehensively, creating a spreading effect among all classes of people. The province strives to mobilize and mobilize resources to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for 1,624 poor households in need of housing support by the end of 2025.

Kien Giang Provincial Party Committee has issued an Action Program and set a goal that by 2030 (the 100th anniversary of the Party's founding), Kien Giang province will have no more policy families facing housing difficulties, determined to "completely eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for poor households, near-poor households, and people affected by natural disasters and climate change".

PV: In the coming time, what must the Front at all levels do to achieve the above goal, sir?

Mr. Ngo Phuong Vu: To maintain and promote the results achieved in the work of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the province, in the coming time, the Fatherland Front at all levels will continue to innovate propaganda and mobilization methods to create attraction and high consensus of the whole society for the work of caring for the poor.

The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and the “For the Poor” Fund Mobilization Committee at all levels closely coordinate with the government and relevant agencies to advise the Party Committee on appropriate guidelines to strengthen the mobilization of support for the “For the Poor” Fund and mobilize resources to implement social security programs, focusing on building Great Solidarity houses for poor households. Promote the role of member organizations of the Front, guide members to implement the national target program on poverty reduction according to the policies of the Party and the State; coordinate the implementation of the mobilization of support for the “For the Poor” Fund in each residential community.

At the same time, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee at all levels in the province strengthens the inspection, supervision and evaluation of the disclosure of support resources for the poor households to the right beneficiaries; ensures effective savings, avoids waste and negativity in fund management and use; advises and proposes timely commendation and rewards for typical examples of organizations and individuals who have made many contributions to the implementation of the Movement "eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses" in the province. Contributes to creating a spreading effect, mobilizing more organizations, businesses and individuals to participate.

In addition to the joint efforts of all levels and sectors in implementing the movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, it is necessary to have the active response and support of organizations, individuals, the whole society, businesses and the whole people with the spirit of the whole people, comprehensiveness, joining hands and mobilizing all resources to care for the poor. However, the most important thing is that the poor must make their own efforts, strive, rise up in life, actively do business, develop the economy, avoid the mindset of relying on the support of the state to escape poverty.
