“A strike group of the Russian air force attacked Ukrainian positions and personnel in the northern direction of Donetsk. The attack was carried out with S-8 unguided missiles from close range in unfavorable weather conditions,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.
The S-8 missile, developed by Russian scientists, is designed for use by fighter bombers and helicopters. This multi-purpose missile offers a variety of warhead options, including armor-piercing to target tanks and incendiary to destroy enemies.
Also on March 5, the destruction of a third Ukrainian M1A1 Abrams tank on the front line was confirmed. Images from the battlefield showed the US-made tank abandoned near the village of Berdychi, west of Avdeevka. This is also where two other tanks were destroyed a few days ago.
According to SF, the third Abrams tank was allegedly disabled by a precision strike of an anti-tank guided missile.
The Russian Defense Ministry officially confirmed the destruction of the third Abrams tank in Ukraine during its daily briefing.
The head of the press service of the Russian Central Group of Forces fighting in the Donetsk direction said that the losses of the Ukrainian army over the past day included 2 tanks, including the US-made Abrams. The Ukrainian army also lost 3 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, 3 armored fighting vehicles and 12 vehicles. Three drone control points were also destroyed. The Ukrainian army also lost many soldiers in fierce fighting in the Donetsk direction.
According to reports from the front, at least five Abrams tanks were spotted near the village of Berdychi. They were deployed as part of the separate 47th Mechanized Brigade (Armed Forces of Ukraine). This brigade was repelled by Russian troops in the Zaporozhye region in the summer of 2023.
According to SF, out of a total of 31 M1A1 Abrams tanks delivered to Ukraine, 10% of them were destroyed by Russian fighter jets.
