Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) Le Minh Hoan has just signed and issued Directive No. 498 on proactively and drastically implementing tasks and activities on the occasion of the 2024 Lunar New Year.
In order to proactively and drastically carry out the tasks of 2024 and activities during the 2024 Lunar New Year to ensure a joyful, healthy, safe and economical celebration, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan requested heads of units under the Ministry and directors of Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development of provinces and centrally run cities to organize the implementation of tasks well.
Regarding specific tasks, Minister Le Minh Hoan assigned the Department of Irrigation to direct and coordinate with Vietnam Electricity Group and related localities to implement the water discharge plan and water intake schedule for the 2023-2024 winter-spring crop in the Northern Midlands and Delta regions.

Direct localities to effectively implement the work of preventing and combating drought, water shortages, and saltwater intrusion to serve production and people's lives; strengthen inspection and ensure the safety of irrigation works and reservoirs, and have timely response solutions when incidents occur.
Closely monitor weather developments; strengthen inspection and ensure dyke safety; organize on-duty shifts during Tet to promptly warn of natural disasters and resolve incidents.
The Forestry Department directed localities to strengthen forest fire prevention and fighting before, during and after the Lunar New Year; organize on-duty teams during the Tet holiday to direct forest fire prevention and fighting, promptly warn and handle situations that arise.
Regarding the fisheries sector, the Minister assigned the Department of Fisheries to direct localities to prepare fish fry and other technical conditions to ensure that fish fry are released on schedule. Organize well the seafood exploitation campaigns, proactively take measures to support fishermen to avoid risks, confidently go offshore and stick to the sea, and propagate to fishermen to exploit seafood in accordance with Vietnamese and international laws.
The Plant Protection Department organizes a shift during Tet to direct epidemic prevention and control work and promptly handle outbreaks; promptly deploys support for plant protection drugs according to regulations for localities and areas affected by natural disasters and floods to quickly restore production.
Regarding the field of animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, the Minister assigned the Department of Animal Husbandry to direct the promotion of animal husbandry production to ensure quality and food safety, meeting people's consumption needs during the Lunar New Year and Spring Festival 2024. Direct and inspect localities to implement measures to strengthen hunger and cold prevention for livestock in the winter-spring crop of 2023 - 2024.
The Department of Animal Health directs and strictly inspects the implementation of Directive No. 29 dated December 6, 2023 of the Prime Minister on preventing smuggling and illegal transportation of animals and animal products; controlling epidemics well, developing sustainable livestock farming, ensuring food supply in the last months of 2023 and early 2024.
At the same time, timely support of vaccines and disinfectants according to regulations will be deployed for localities and areas affected by natural disasters, storms, floods, and epidemic risks to quickly restore production and ensure environmental hygiene.
Continue to organize and implement measures to strictly control the trading and transportation of livestock, poultry and related products, especially at border gates, trails and openings in border areas. At the same time, organize on-duty staff during Tet to direct epidemic prevention and promptly handle outbreaks.

Regarding food safety during Tet, the Minister requested the Department of Quality, Processing and Market Development to effectively implement Plan No. 1540 dated December 13, 2023 of the Central Inter-sectoral Steering Committee on food safety on ensuring food safety during the Giap Thin Lunar New Year and the 2024 Spring Festival season.
At the same time, coordinate with relevant agencies and units to drastically implement measures to inspect and control the domestic market, especially food hygiene and safety at agricultural wholesale markets, food, vegetable and fruit businesses serving Tet; handle violations to ensure food quality and safety to serve consumer needs during the Lunar New Year.
In addition, closely monitor the supply and demand of essential food during Tet to have timely intervention measures, avoid shortages and price hikes; ensure to meet the consumption needs of people before, during and after Tet.
For the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of provinces and centrally-run cities, Minister Le Minh Hoan requested to comprehensively organize and implement activities in the fields of agriculture and rural areas in the area, including drastic solutions to implement a number of tasks.
