(NLDO) – China is abuzz with stories of tourists being forced by tour guides to shop, or else being kicked out of the car in an empty place, with snow and temperatures of -13 degrees Celsius.
The incident happened in early February 2025 when Mr. Vuong and many others were forced to shop by a tour guide while traveling to Jiuzhaigou in Sichuan province.
Mr. Vuong bought a 7-day Sichuan tour organized by Chengdu China Travel Service Co., Ltd., Qingyang Branch. The tour price is 2,000 yuan/person (more than 7 million VND).
The delegation members came from many places such as Xi'an, Shaanxi, Zhejiang, Chongqing... and the provinces of Northeast China. The delegation included many elderly people and children.
On February 2, the group departed from Chengdu to Huanglong Scenic Area (Sichuan). When seeing some tourists not buying anything, the female tour guide said: "There is no 'commission' today, buy or not is up to you, but tomorrow you must buy."
On February 4, on the way to the Jiuzhaigou tourist area, the tour guide again forced the group to shop. The tour guide criticized the group members for spending little, threatening that anyone who did not buy anything would have to get out of the car. The car stopped for 20 minutes in an empty area, where the temperature outside was -13 degrees Celsius, and snow was falling heavily.

According to worldjournal , Mr. Vuong said that at first people thought they were just forced to buy food and drinks, but unexpectedly they were silver and jade products. The products they were forced to buy cost from several thousand to tens of thousands of yuan, so Mr. Vuong was upset and argued with the tour guide.
In a video posted by netizens, Mr. Vuong questioned the travel agency’s commitment not to force customers to shop. In contrast, the tour guide insisted that he would not force anyone to consume goods. The two sides argued fiercely.

During the argument, the female tour guide called Mr. Vuong a bad guy. The tour guide informed the tour company that she could no longer lead the group because Mr. Vuong wanted to get off the bus and convince everyone on the bus not to go shopping.
Ultimately, the tour guide failed to achieve his goal of forcing customers to buy and left the group that afternoon. The driver continued to lead the group. Mr. Vuong then left the group on February 6.
Mr. Vuong said that the travel agency contacted him and asked him not to disclose too much information to others. The company said that they were handling the issue and asked him to delete the video recording of the incident during the trip.
Local reporters repeatedly contacted the person in charge of the Thanh Duong Branch of Chengdu China Travel Service Co., Ltd. but received no response.
Meanwhile, the company's main office claimed that the tour guide was affiliated with the Tour Guide Association and not a company employee. At the same time, the company had no subsequent complaints from customers.
Immediately after the incident, the Chengdu Department of Culture, Radio, Film and Tourism confirmed the netizens' accusations, saying that they were investigating the tour guide and the passenger vehicle involved and would handle them strictly according to the law.
