(HNMO) - On May 4, the Investigation Police Agency (Hanoi City Police) initiated a case and prosecuted Nguyen Viet Dung (born in 1969, living in Thanh Dam Street, Thanh Tri Ward, Hoang Mai District, Hanoi) for producing and trading in prohibited goods.
Previously, as reported, the Economic Crime Prevention and Control Team, Economic Police Department (Hanoi City Police) successfully dismantled a special case, arresting Nguyen Viet Dung, the leader of a large-scale illegal goods trafficking ring.
Specifically, at around 8:30 a.m. on April 21, on Tran Khat Chan Street, Hai Ba Trung District, the Working Group of the Economic Crime Prevention and Control Team, Economic Police Department discovered Nguyen Viet Dung transporting 2 suspicious cartons. Inside the 2 cartons were 110 packs of various types of foreign-made cigarettes. The count found 1,100 packs of cigarettes, including 800 packs of 555 brand and 300 packs of ESSE brand. Nguyen Viet Dung could not present documents proving the origin of the cigarettes.
The working group brought the subject and the evidence to the headquarters of Bach Dang Ward Police, Hai Ba Trung District, for further verification and clarification. During an urgent search of the residence and hiding place of the subject Dung at No. 39 Thanh Dam and at No. 20, Lane 70, Thanh Lan Street, Thanh Tri Ward, Hoang Mai District, the Investigation Police Agency, City Police seized a large quantity of smuggled cigarettes manufactured abroad. Through counting, there were 66,450 packs of cigarettes of various brands No. 555, ESSE, RAISON, CAMEL... and 36.345 kg of cigars. The total estimated value is 3 billion VND.
Contrary to his austere appearance, Nguyen Viet Dung is known as the head of a network specializing in supplying smuggled cigarettes to retail agents.
The case is currently under further investigation.
