TASS news agency on October 4 quoted Russian-appointed official Denis Pushilin in Donetsk as saying that about 500 members of the Russian Armed Forces are still being held by Ukraine.

He accused Ukraine of being slow to provide information regarding these prisoners and that it was very difficult to get any information about them.

In addition, Mr. Pushilin added that the number of Ukrainian prisoners of war being held by the Russian side is "thousands of people" and "these numbers cannot be compared", but did not give specifics.

He said Ukrainian prisoners of war were being held in facilities across Russia. Ukraine has not commented on the information.

UAV attack Russia

Writing on Telegram on October 4, the Russian Defense Ministry said that its forces shot down 31 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the Belgorod, Bryansk and Kursk regions, three Russian border provinces bordering Ukraine.

Three air targets were shot down in the Grayvoronsky district, causing damage to civilian infrastructure but no casualties, said Vyacheslav Gladkov, governor of Belgorod.

The Defense Ministry also confirmed that Russian military aircraft had prevented an attempt by the Ukrainian army to enter Crimea in the direction of Cape Tarkhankut.

China controls UAV exports, Ukraine struggles

Kursk Oblast borders Sumy Oblast of Ukraine, while Bryansk Oblast borders Chernihiv Oblast of northern Ukraine and Sumy Oblast. Belgorod Oblast borders Luhansk, Kharkiv and Sumy Oblasts of Ukraine to the south and west.

Claims of Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian territory have increased in recent weeks, although Kyiv rarely comments on them.

According to The Guardian , Bryansk governor Alexander Bogomaz said that Ukrainian forces also appeared to have fired cluster munitions into several villages in the south of the province.

He said there were no casualties but several houses were damaged. Kyiv did not immediately comment on the information.

Ukraine has received cluster bombs from the US and pledged to use them only to eliminate enemy concentrations.

Russian officials in Bryansk and other regions bordering Ukraine have repeatedly accused Ukrainian armed forces of indiscriminate shelling.
