The school's form of reward has caused outrage among parents.
According to Mr. Trinh Vinh Thanh, yesterday, September 24, the Department of Education and Training of Go Vap district received information from parents about Le Quy Don Primary School's organization of rewarding students by awarding certificates of merit to students who donated to support people affected by storms and floods during the flag-salute ceremony on September 23.
Specifically, parents of students at Le Quy Don Primary School reacted to the fact that students who contributed VND100,000 or more received certificates of merit from the principal. Students who donated less received letters of merit from their homeroom teachers. Parents expressed their disagreement with the above form of reward because the fundraising campaign aims to educate students in the spirit of mutual love, solidarity, thrift, and sharing with people in difficult circumstances. No matter how much the support contribution is, it is something to be respected by students and there should be no discrimination when praising and rewarding like that.
From the above information, Mr. Trinh Vinh Thanh said that the Department of Education and Training of Go Vap district has requested schools to review and give general reminders and instructions to all schools under the district's management.
The Head of the Department of Education and Training of Go Vap District requested: "All schools must not organize awards for students with inappropriate content, especially contributions to support people affected by storms and floods. The awards must aim to encourage students with outstanding achievements, but still create a comfortable mentality for students who are not rewarded. It is recommended that school principals consider carefully before deciding to carry out any activity to avoid causing harm to students, parents and causing public outrage."
