On the afternoon of August 14, the People's Committee of Thu Duc City (HCMC) held a conference to commend and reward 5 individuals who had bravely saved people in a traffic accident at the foot of Phu My Bridge on August 8.
At the ceremony, Standing Committee Member of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Secretary of the Thu Duc City Party Committee Nguyen Huu Hiep and Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Vo Van Hoan awarded certificates of merit from the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to 5 individuals: Mr. Mai Le Duy Quang (born in 1980, residing in Quang Ngai province, Thu Duc city); Mr. Nguyen Hoang Truong (born in 1983, residing in Thu Duc city); Mr. Vu Thanh Tung (born in 1997, residing in Gia Lai province, Thu Duc city); Mr. Lee Geumho (born in 1980, Korean nationality, residing in District 7) and Mr. Dang Binh Quang (born in 1974, residing in District 7).
Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of Thu Duc City People's Committee Nguyen Ky Phung said that recently, many press and television agencies have spread images of brave people saving people in distress by many individuals. Especially after the traffic accident at the foot of Phu My bridge, the brave actions of 5 "heroes" saving people were widely spread by press and television agencies.
“All five of them did not hesitate to sacrifice themselves to save people in distress. These are ordinary people but have done noble deeds. We would like to send them our gratitude and thanks and hope that these noble actions will continue to spread in society,” comrade Nguyen Ky Phung emphasized.
Receiving a certificate of merit from the leaders of Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Mai Le Duy Quang, one of the five people who rescued the victim in the traffic accident, shared that he and everyone else only thought about saving people in that situation. He thought that any Vietnamese person in that situation would think and act like us.
As reported by SGGP, on the afternoon of August 8, driver D. (born in 1987, residing in Kien Giang province) was driving a truck with a Kien Giang license plate from District 7 to Thu Duc City (HCMC). While going down Phu My bridge, the truck lost its brakes and crashed into the median strip.
The truck continued to speed, hitting other vehicles moving ahead. The incident caused two passenger cars and one truck to catch fire; four other vehicles were severely damaged. Some people trapped in the vehicles were rescued from the vehicles by many brave passersby and taken to the emergency room. Their actions were filmed by passersby, posted on social media, and received much praise.
Through verification, the police identified 5 "heroes" including: Mr. Mai Le Duy Quang, who directly climbed on top of the car to break the glass door and pull the trapped person out of the cockpit; Mr. Nguyen Hoang Truong, who wore a technology car outfit and sprayed a mini fire extinguisher into the cabin to prevent the fire from spreading, and coordinated the rescue.
Mr. Vu Thanh Tung, a worker in uniform, and a man in a white shirt directly rescued a person from the car and then, together with Mr. Quang, rescued the driver of the car; Mr. Lee Geumho, a man in a white shirt carrying a black bag, directly helped Mr. Tung pull the car door to rescue a man from the car, and Mr. Dang Binh Quang, a man in a tech car outfit, helped push the car door open and rescue the victim.
