With the theme "The World I Read", Book and Reading Culture Day 2024 is an important cultural event for book lovers and the public nationwide, contributing to promoting the value of books and reading culture in the community; encouraging and developing the reading movement to improve knowledge and skills for self-development and social development; connecting domestic and foreign readers, and honoring organizations and individuals with positive contributions to the development of books and reading culture.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Director of the National Library of Vietnam Nguyen Xuan Dung said: Every good book not only contains a treasure trove of knowledge and quintessence, but also opens the door to the values of truth, goodness, and beauty with messages full of humanity.
Appreciating the importance of books and reading, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization - UNESCO chose April 23 as "World Book and Copyright Day" and in Vietnam, April 21 every year was approved by the 14th National Assembly as "Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day".
These are important decisions to affirm the indispensable position and role of books in social life; encourage and develop the reading movement in the community, not only limited to traditional printed documents but also expanding to audio, visual media and digital platforms. At the same time, honoring those who write, make books, preserve and promote books, connecting domestic and foreign readers creates positive effects to build a learning society, contributing to the development of Vietnamese culture and people towards the goal of sustainable national development.
Coming to this year's Book and Reading Culture Day, the public and readers have the opportunity to interact, meet, discuss, and interact with authors, translators, critics, scientists, managers, and book lovers in activities of high cultural, intellectual, social, and educational significance such as seminars - Exchange of authors and works, and Experience of reading skills.
With 1000 typical documents selected from the nation's cultural heritage currently preserved at the Library, the exhibition "Books - The door to the world" is displayed with the following contents: Books - Changing thinking; Books - Expanding vision; Books - Discovering the world; From book pages to success has brought the public and readers a lot of useful information.

In addition, some activities such as Creative Reading, Exploring Digital Libraries, and Drawing from Books will immerse children in profound stories, freely create vivid pictures, learn about many diverse cultures in the world to improve knowledge, life skills, and foreign language skills, thereby nurturing a love for books, maintaining the joy and habit of reading anytime, anywhere.
Along with the annual activities that attract the attention and participation of the public and readers, Book and Reading Culture Day 2024 at the National Library of Vietnam is also organized with many new activities.
Typically, the "Book Conservation Station" introduced to the public one of the important professional activities of the library and participated in experiencing some of the most basic restoration and repair skills to understand the work of preserving and conserving documents, to appreciate each book and the people working in the library. At the same time, it promoted the ability to think and be creative in creating unique products associated with reading and reading promotion activities.
Along with that, there are other activities such as: Online contest "Good books find good names", Appointment with Fanpage, Sowing knowledge seeds have contributed to spreading and promoting the image of the Library to readers and the public, enhancing the interactive experience associated with reading activities and reading promotion.
Also within the framework of the program, the National Library of Vietnam continues to be a trusted address to receive and share funding for books and equipment from organizations and individuals to libraries in remote and disadvantaged areas.
