Opening of the Scientific Workshop on Research on Preservation and Promotion of the Value of the Stele System at the Special National Monument of Non Nuoc Mountain

On the morning of May 3, the Department of Culture and Sports of Ninh Binh coordinated with the Institute of Han Nom Studies under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences to organize a scientific workshop "Research, preservation and promotion of the value of the stele system at the special national relic of Non Nuoc mountain".

Attending the workshop were comrades: Pham Quang Ngoc, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Tong Quang Thin, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Tuan Cuong, Director of the Institute of Han Nom Studies, Co-Head of the workshop organizing committee.

Also attending the workshop were leaders of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department; leaders of a number of provincial departments and branches; the Provincial Historical Science Association; the Provincial Cultural Heritage Association; the Provincial Literature and Arts Association; Ninh Binh City; Thanh Binh Ward and scientists, researchers, experts from research agencies of the Institute of Han Nom Studies, Institute of Literature, Institute of History, Institute of Archeology, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, National Institute of Culture and Arts, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi and local researchers.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Comrade Tong Quang Thin, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee emphasized: The scientific workshop "Research, preservation and promotion of the value of the system of steles at the special national relic of Non Nuoc Mountain" is an important event to evaluate and affirm the historical, cultural and documentary values ​​of the system of steles at the relic, contributing to clarifying the outstanding value of the special national relic of Non Nuoc Mountain; thereby proposing directions for preserving and promoting the value of steles in particular and Non Nuoc Mountain relic in general, contributing to the socio-economic and cultural development of the locality.

Non Nuoc Mountain is not only an epic that records many historical events and heroic feats of our ancestors, but it is also a natural library and priceless poetry museum. Once considered a "fairyland falling from the mortal world", Non Nuoc Mountain has long been a subject and endless source of inspiration for kings, heroes, and literati of many eras to write poems about the scenery. There are few mountains in Vietnam that have more than 40 poems carved into the mountain and hundreds of poems about the scenery by poets and famous people through the dynasties such as Truong Han Sieu, Nguyen Trai, Pham Su Manh, Le Thanh Tong, Le Hien Tong, Ngo Thi Nham, Tan Da... The inscriptions still on the cliffs are not only valuable literary works but also elaborate sculptures of high aesthetic value, harmoniously distributed on the flat, vertical cliffs, enhancing the beauty and crystallizing the cultural value of Non Nuoc Mountain.

The scientific workshop "Research, conservation and promotion of the value of the stele system at the special national relic of Non Nuoc mountain" is one of the activities in the plan "Management, conservation and promotion of the value of the special national relic of Non Nuoc mountain, Ninh Binh city, Ninh Binh province, period 2021-2025" to strengthen the management, protection and promotion of the value of the special national relic of Non Nuoc mountain associated with tourism development in the province; at the same time, contributing to the propaganda and education of cultural heritage, promoting and spreading the value of the relic and intangible cultural heritage associated with the Non Nuoc mountain relic; at the same time, it is an opportunity for Ninh Binh province to consult with managers, experts and scientists to build a nomination dossier to inscribe the stele system at the relic into the UNESCO List of Documentary Heritage.

The central report "Overview of the special national relic of Non Nuoc Mountain" presented by Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports, co-head of the workshop organizing committee, clearly stated general information, current status of the relic, value of the relic; directions for preserving and promoting the value of the relic.

It is affirmed that: Non Nuoc Mountain and the adjacent Canh Dieu Mountain are being proposed by Ninh Binh province to be included in the Plan for the preservation, restoration and rehabilitation of the special national relic of Hoa Lu Ancient Capital until 2030, with a vision to 2050, with the theme space of the brand of preserving and promoting the value of heritage as Acquisition. At the same time, develop a Plan for the preservation, restoration and rehabilitation of the special national relic of Non Nuoc Mountain to submit to the Prime Minister for approval, build Thuy Son cultural park as a highlight to serve the spiritual and cultural needs of the people, and at the same time add a unique cultural tourist destination for visitors to Ninh Binh. Develop the theme of cultural exchange, acculturation, trade and industry in history and modernity, forming an area focusing on cultural activities and contemporary performing arts, cultural industry, containing the quintessence of modernity and tradition.

This workshop is an opportunity for Ninh Binh province to consult with domestic and international experts, UNESCO, and cultural heritage management agencies at the central and local levels to develop a nomination dossier to submit to competent authorities for consideration of inclusion in the UNESCO Documentary Heritage List.

Associate Professor, Dr. Vuong Thi Huong, Deputy Director of the Institute of Han Nom Studies, presented the Workshop's introductory report.

The report introducing the workshop presented by Associate Professor, Dr. Vuong Thi Huong, Deputy Director of the Institute of Han Nom Studies stated: The workshop received 36 papers from researchers at the central and local levels. The content of the papers was divided into two topics: "Historical, cultural and documentary values ​​of the stele system at the special national relic of Non Nuoc Mountain" and "Solutions to preserve and promote the value of the special national relic of Non Nuoc Mountain and the stele system at the relic".

The presentations at the workshop focused on clarifying a number of issues: the historical position of Non Nuoc Mountain in the construction and protection of Ninh Binh in particular and the country in general; the process of restoring relics on Non Nuoc Mountain and the significance of these relics; clearly identifying the Han Nom heritage treasure of Non Nuoc Mountain, including the following issues: quantity and literary texts of Non Nuoc Mountain; clarifying the outstanding historical and literary values ​​of Non Nuoc Mountain's poetry; orienting the work of planning, preserving and promoting the cultural heritage values ​​of Non Nuoc Mountain; at the same time, expanding the communication to widely introduce the unique cultural heritage of Non Nuoc Mountain, building tourist destinations and sightseeing for visitors.

Through the scientific conference, we will focus on solving the above issues, contributing to research, preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage value of the Non Nuoc Mountain Special National Monument.
