International tourists to Vietnam in the first quarter increased by 72% over the same period last year

Speaking at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism held on April 11 in Hanoi, Mr. Pham Van Thuy, Deputy Director of the National Tourism Administration, stated that all important national holidays, including April 30-May 1, are ideal and exciting times for the tourism industry to welcome domestic and international tourists.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the tourism industry in particular have solutions and plans to synchronously implement solutions to develop tourism, attract and meet the diverse needs of domestic and international tourists. In particular, the whole industry has strongly innovated the methods and content of tourism promotion and product introduction.

The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism has worked with local management agencies and closely coordinated with tourism businesses to attract international and domestic tourists. The relevant parties have done a good job of management, operation, creating favorable conditions, meeting the needs of tourists for tourism, travel, and accommodation. Localities and businesses have focused on renewing products and improving service quality, satisfying tourists, in order to attract the return of domestic and international tourists, and increase the spending capacity of tourists.

In particular, to attract high-spending tourist segments to Vietnam in the coming time, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Pham Van Thuy emphasized the need to pay attention to improving quality and quantity, renewing products, promoting and communicating to key markets of Vietnam tourism. In particular, relevant parties focus on developing specialized products with strong Vietnamese cultural characteristics, making full use of new policies on electronic visa issuance and visa exemption to attract visitors.

Along with that, tourism needs to cooperate closely with airlines to open more direct flights, connecting countries with Vietnam.

At the press conference, Deputy Chief of Office of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Huu Ngoc informed that the number of international visitors to Vietnam is on a clear growth trend. In March, Vietnam welcomed an estimated 1.6 million international visitors; domestic visitors were estimated at 8.5 million (about 3 million overnight stays at accommodation establishments).

In the first quarter of this year, the total number of international visitors to Vietnam is estimated at 4.64 million, up 72% over the same period last year. Domestic visitors are estimated at 30 million, up 9%. Total revenue from tourism is estimated at 195,100 billion VND, up 47%.

In the first quarter of this year, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism submitted to the Government the Vietnam Tourism System Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2045; submitted to the Prime Minister for promulgation of Official Dispatch No. 06/CD-TTg on improving the effectiveness of tourism statistics to evaluate, formulate policies and promote effective and sustainable development of Vietnam's tourism in the coming time; Directive 08/CT-TTg dated March 22, 2024 on comprehensive, rapid and sustainable tourism development in the coming time.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has issued an Action Plan to implement Resolution No. 02/NQ-CP dated January 5, 2024 on key tasks and solutions to improve the business environment and enhance national competitiveness in 2024.

At the same time, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism successfully coordinated to organize the Opening Ceremony of National Tourism Year 2024 and the National Scientific Conference "Dien Bien promotes potential and advantages for sustainable tourism development".
