iPad Air

The iPad Air line is expected to get an upgrade to a 12.9-inch display alongside the 10.9-inch model.

Rumors also suggest that the new iPad Air will be equipped with an M2 chip for higher performance, along with a redesigned camera cluster, supporting Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, but there will be no significant changes in appearance.

The fifth-generation iPad Air, powered by the M1 chip, is expected to be released in March 2022.

iPad Pro

The next-generation 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models are expected to be the first iPads to feature OLED displays — a factor that could push up the price of the products.

OLED technology allows the new iPad's screen to have higher brightness, contrast ratio and vivid colors while consuming less power than LCD models.

Apple is using OLED displays for its latest iPhone and Apple Watch models, except for the lower-end iPhone SE.

Will the new iPad Pro run on an M3 chip?

iPad Pro models released in 2017 and later support ProMotion, which allows for variable refresh rates between 24Hz and 120Hz.

OLED and LTPO display technology will likely allow refresh rates to drop even lower, to 10Hz or lower to save battery life. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro models could hit as low as 1Hz when in always-on display mode.

Other rumored features that could be coming to the next iPad Pro models include the latest Apple M3 chip with faster performance, MagSafe wireless charging, a redesigned Magic Keyboard with a larger trackpad and aluminum top case, and a landscape-oriented front-facing camera.

Current iPad Pro models with the M2 chip are due for release in October 2022.

MacBook Air

While the current 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Airs were released a year apart due to production delays, they will be updated simultaneously this March. The most exciting feature is the Apple M3 chip.

The new MacBook Air won't have major changes in appearance.

With the M3 chip, the next MacBook Air models will get hardware acceleration to improve graphics rendering in games, including more accurate lighting, reflections, and shadows. Apple updated the 14-inch MacBook Pro, 16-inch MacBook Pro, and 24-inch iMac with the M3 chip last year.

No major design changes are expected for the MacBook Air this year, but the laptop will likely get Wi-Fi 6E support like other Macs.

Apple last updated the 13-inch MacBook Air in July 2022, while the first 15-inch MacBook Air was released in June 2023.
