Through preliminary inspection by authorities, the boat capsized when it sank so it is very likely that the victims are trapped in the boat.

Previously, at around 7:30 p.m. on April 17, in the flooded area of Son La hydroelectric reservoir, in the area of Co Le village (old), Nam Ma commune, Sin Ho district (Lai Chau), heavy rain accompanied by a whirlwind capsized a 50-ton iron boat, driven by Mr. Phan A Cong (born in 1994, residing in Dien Thanh village, Nam Cha commune, Sin Ho).

When the accident happened, there were 5 people on the boat living in Dien Thanh village, Nam Cha commune, Sin Ho district.

The location of the boat in distress has been determined, but the water is too deep, making the search difficult.

According to the survivors, at the time of the incident the boat was moving from the Da River mouth to Dien Thanh wharf, Nam Cha commune.

At the time the boat capsized, all 5 people fell into the river. Boatman Phan A Cong rescued 2 people, Than Thi Sao and Ly Thi Chong. The 2 victims, Ly Thi Gay and Ly Thi Quay, were swept away by the sinking boat and went missing.
