More than 5,810 candidates took part in the national excellent student exam this year, an increase of 1,230 people compared to last year.
The subjects include Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Information Technology, Literature, History, Geography, English, French, Russian and Chinese.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training on January 4, Literature was the subject with the most candidates - nearly 650, followed by English 639. Math and Biology both had 607 candidates, Physics 605.
The subject with the fewest candidates was Russian - 77. This was also the only subject with less than 100 candidates competing. Chinese had the second fewest with 80 candidates.
The total number of candidates participating in the excellent student exam this year is 5,819, an increase of 1,230 compared to last year.
The national exam for excellent students took place over two days, January 5-6, for high school students. The exam content was based on the 2006 general education program. Except for Literature, History and Geography, the remaining subjects took place over two days.
In October 2023, the Ministry of Education and Training issued regulations for national excellent student exams with many changes compared to the regulations applied since 2011. Notably, the number of candidates taking the exam and the winning rate were increased.
Previously, the Ministry stipulated that each unit's team for each subject had a maximum of 6 candidates. In Hanoi, the team for each subject could have a maximum of 12 candidates. According to the new regulations, the maximum number of candidates for each subject is 10, while in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, it is 20. This is the reason why the number of candidates this year has increased sharply compared to last year.
The percentage of students winning prizes will account for 60% of the total number of contestants, an increase of 10% compared to before. Of which, the number of first, second and third prizes will not exceed 60% of the total number of prizes; the number of first prizes will not exceed 5%. This percentage, according to the Ministry, is in line with the regulations of regional and international Olympic competitions.
Candidates who participate but do not win a prize will be given a certificate so that they can keep their information for a long time. This is different from before.
The Ministry of Education and Training said the national competition for excellent students aims to encourage and motivate teachers and learners to develop their creativity, contributing to promoting and improving the quality of education. At the same time, this is to discover talented students, thereby creating a source of training, realizing the goal of training talents for the country.
