(BGDT) - On the morning of June 24, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs coordinated with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to organize the 21st Traditional Sports Tournament for People with Disabilities in Bac Giang Province in 2023. Attending were Mr. Mai Son, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; representatives of leaders of a number of departments, branches of the province, districts and cities.
The tournament was attended by 18 delegations with more than 160 athletes from 10 districts, cities and units in the province. The athletes competed in 21 events of 3 sports, including: Badminton, table tennis and chess. The districts: Yen Dung, Lang Giang and Bac Giang city are units with strong development of sports movements for people with disabilities.

This tournament has many athletes who have competed and won high prizes in national and Southeast Asian competitions. According to the regulations, the participants are divided into 2 groups. Group 1 includes athletes who are war invalids, sick soldiers, resistance fighters who were exposed to toxic chemicals (receiving monthly allowances), and people with disabilities aged 15 and over. Group 2 includes athletes who work in social protection for people with disabilities, including leaders of some departments, districts, cities, offices, affiliated units and cultural and social officials of communes, wards and towns.
At the end, the Organizing Committee awarded a total of 20 sets of prizes to athletes with excellent achievements in the events (10-set badminton, 8-set table tennis, 2-set Chinese chess). In the overall tournament, Bac Giang City ranked first, Yen Dung district ranked second, and Lang Giang district ranked third. At the same time, the Organizing Committee awarded the oldest athlete, Mr. Dao Tien Sua (born in 1947), from the Bac Giang Province Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin, and the most severely disabled athlete, Mr. Tang Van Dinh (Hiep Hoa).

The tournament aims to encourage and motivate war invalids, sick soldiers, and people with disabilities to regularly practice sports to improve their health, overcome difficulties, take control of their lives, and contribute to society and the country.
