On May 10, 2024, in Hanoi, Comrade Tran Luu Quang, Deputy Prime Minister, Head of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Chairman of the National Committee for Natural Disaster Response and Search and Rescue chaired the National Online Conference on natural disaster prevention and control and search and rescue in 2024. Attending the conference at the Lang Son province bridge were members of the provincial and district and city-level Steering Committees for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue.

In 2023, there were over 5,300 incidents and natural disasters nationwide, causing 1,129 deaths and missing people. Economic losses due to natural disasters are estimated at over VND 9,324 billion. Since the beginning of 2024, a number of serious natural disasters have occurred nationwide, such as severe cold, drought, saltwater intrusion, landslides, land subsidence and flooding, causing 14 deaths and missing people, with estimated material losses of over VND 399 billion. The work of overcoming the consequences of natural disasters in 2023 has received attention and been implemented quickly and promptly. The Prime Minister decided to support VND 8,500 billion from the central budget reserve in 2023 for 43 provinces and cities to prevent, combat and overcome the consequences of natural disasters and landslides. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development provided 100 tons of rice seeds, 67 tons of corn seeds, 10 tons of vegetable seeds, 56 tons and 10,000 liters of chemicals to disinfect livestock, poultry and aquatic products to localities to promptly stabilize production after natural disasters.

In 2023, Lang Son province was affected by natural disasters such as: severe cold, severe cold and floods occurred, causing damage to rice and the traffic system, causing some damage to state and people's property and 01 death, with a total estimated damage of over 14.6 billion VND. In the first months of 2024, there were no dangerous forms of natural disasters in the province, mainly thunderstorms causing damage to people's houses and crops; estimated total damage of over 10 billion VND.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang requested relevant ministries and localities to improve the apparatus of Steering Committees at all levels to ensure continuous and effective operations in directing and advising on disaster response; continue to effectively implement legal documents and instructions of the Party, State and Government on this work; review, supplement and perfect the system of legal documents on disaster prevention and control; strengthen communication and information dissemination, raise awareness for all levels of sectors and people; strengthen inspection and supervision, especially before the flood season, regularly review scenarios in advance, ensure they are suitable to the practical situation; improve the quality of forecasting, warning and monitoring of natural disasters in a timely and accurate manner; improve the management capacity of local authorities at all levels; mobilize resources for disaster prevention and control; Strengthen international cooperation in incident and disaster response and search and rescue, apply science and technology and improve the quality of incident and disaster forecasting and warning./.
