The 35th International Olympiad in 2023 will be held from August 28 to September 4 in Szeged, Hungary, with 351 contestants from 89 countries and territories.

The exam has two official days. On each day, candidates program on a computer for 5 hours and solve 3 problems.

According to the organizers, 178 contestants won medals, including 30 gold, 58 silver and 90 bronze medals, accounting for 50.7% of the total number of contestants. 40 others were awarded certificates of merit.

The Ministry of Education and Training assessed that this year's exam was more difficult than previous years and had some strange types of problems, requiring candidates to be able to apply knowledge flexibly and be highly creative.

Last year, the Vietnamese team competed online and won one gold medal and three silver medals. The gold medalist was Tran Xuan Bach, then an 11th grader at the High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences.
