The Vietnam Mathematical Modeling Competition 2024 is organized by the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM) and the IEG Education Development Foundation. The competition is part of the activities of the National Key Program for Mathematics Development for the period 2021-2030.
The exam aims to create opportunities for high school students to demonstrate their creativity and mathematical skills through solving real-world problems by creating hypothetical mathematical models.
In addition to developing problem-solving skills, creativity, logical thinking and teamwork, the exam also creates an environment and inspires students to explore and apply Mathematics in daily life.
This year, round 1 of the competition attracted the participation of 151 candidates from 38 high schools nationwide. In round 1, teams were given a choice of 1 of 3 related topics: “Sustainable agricultural practices: Vietnam’s durian problem”, “Revolving credit contract valuation”, “Consumer price index (CPI)”.
The panel of experts has selected the 8 best teams (32 contestants) for Round 2.
The second round of the problem requires optimizing the location of manufacturing plants. The problem is where to place manufacturing facilities (factories) to be able to produce enough goods to supply stores for a year, so that the total cost of setting up the factory and the cost of transporting goods from the factory to the stores is the smallest.
On June 28, after the Professional Board round of the direct scoring and interview, the organizing committee decided to award the first prize to the team of the High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences (under the University of Natural Sciences - VNU).
The two second prizes went to the teams of Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted (Hanoi) and Bac Giang High School for the Gifted (Bac Giang province).
3 Third prizes went to the teams: Bac Giang High School for the Gifted, Bac Giang province; Luong Van Chanh High School for the Gifted, Phu Yen province; Vo Nguyen Giap High School for the Gifted, Quang Binh province.
The Encouragement Prizes went to the teams: Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, Ho Chi Minh City and Thoai Ngoc Hau High School for the Gifted, An Giang province.
Dr. Trinh Thuy Giang, Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee of the Vietnam Mathematical Modeling Competition, said: “Up to now, there have been many competitions, but they are mainly competitions for gifted students or competitions in the traditional way. In this competition, we do not aim for students to solve problems but to use mathematical knowledge to build mathematical models to apply to solve practical problems.
Through this, students’ love for learning Maths is aroused when they see that the knowledge they learn can solve real-life problems. Accordingly, their job is to come up with solutions and build Math models and defend them with their own arguments. Each group has a very different approach,” said Ms. Giang.
According to the plan, in the following years, the organizing committee will consider expanding the target audience to students in grades 8 and 9.
Dozens of Math exam questions for high school graduation in 2024 were found to be blurred
Dozens of math exam questions for the 2024 high school graduation exam in Dak Lak were blurred. Currently, the Dak Lak Provincial Examination Council is directing the handling to ensure the rights of candidates.
High school math exam is difficult, many candidates randomly circle the answers
Many candidates said that getting a score of 7 on this year's exam was not difficult, but to get a score of 9, the knowledge had to be very good. In the last questions, many candidates had to randomly circle the answers.
