Among the poverty reduction projects being implemented locally, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ham Thuan Nam district is currently participating in the implementation of Sub-project 1: Supporting production development in the agricultural sector (under Project 3: Supporting production development, improving nutrition). From the allocated budget of hundreds of millions of VND, last year the sector implemented a model of breeding cows in My Thanh with 22 breeding cows for 22 poor households in the commune. This year, this unit continues to be allocated nearly 1.2 billion VND to implement Sub-project 1: Supporting production development in the agricultural sector in Ham Thuan Nam.

Implementing the tasks in 2023, the District Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has effectively implemented the model of socializing rice varieties in the communes of Ham Can, Ham Thanh, Ham Cuong (for the summer-autumn crop) and Ham My, Ham Minh, Tan Thanh (in the winter-spring crop). This model has an area of ​​120 hectares with a budget of more than 700 million VND from the capital source to support the development of rice-growing land, thereby partially meeting the demand for seeds for farmers to plant in the following crops. Also this year, the district's functional unit also coordinated to promote the investment program to advance hybrid corn planting for ethnic minority areas, including 698 hectares/315 households in Ham Can commune and 299 hectares/153 households in My Thanh commune. Along with that, it also organized training on the process of preventing fall armyworm on hybrid corn to limit damage and continued to monitor and inspect the model of breeding cows in My Thanh commune...

Also aiming to support the right subjects to contribute to sustainable poverty reduction, this year the District Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has coordinated with specialized facilities to conduct agricultural vocational training for more than 262 local workers. Mainly on growing dragon fruit according to VietGAP standards, plant protection, safe vegetable growing, poultry farming... At the same time, 57,225 doses of vaccines were administered to livestock and poultry (avian influenza, foot and mouth disease, lumpy skin disease, anthrax), 2 "Month of general cleaning, disinfection, and environmental decontamination" and 300 liters of disinfectant and 100 sets of protective clothing were distributed to communes and towns to organize this activity.

Implementing agricultural policies, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has recently continued to guide the implementation of 5 production linkage projects approved by the District People's Committee. Up to now, 4 chains have been formed to supply materials, organize production, harvest and consume dragon fruit products with the participation of a number of cooperatives operating in the district. In addition, a value chain in livestock farming has been built through the project to link production and consumption of cattle breeding products of Thuan Minh Phat Cooperative. It is known that the linked output on dragon fruit trees is about 2,980 tons/111 hectares/year and 154 cows/41 tons/year with a total implementation capital of 21.8 billion VND (of which the budget support capital is 15.3 billion VND, counterpart capital is 6.5 billion VND), currently disbursed 4.7 billion VND.

Aiming at linking production and consumption of products focusing on dragon fruit, the projects also contribute to promoting the advantages of the main crop here, because Ham Thuan Nam is known as the "green dragon capital" of Binh Thuan with an area of ​​over 13,700 hectares. According to the assessment of the district's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, through the implementation of the project linking production and consumption of agricultural products, it has gradually helped stabilize product output for farming households with stable prices, avoiding price pressure when the crop season comes...

In the coming time, Ham Thuan Nam will continue to strive to develop the agricultural economy in a modern, sustainable, high-value direction and focus on investing in crops and livestock with advantages associated with protecting the ecological environment, adapting to climate change... Therefore, practical support for agricultural production in the direction of implementation is very necessary to contribute to the implementation of sustainable poverty reduction in the district to bring about efficiency. Including taking into account the maximum mobilization of resources, promoting the socialization of agricultural extension activities in the transfer of scientific, technical and technological advances to people to serve agricultural production to bring about economic efficiency...

In 2023, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ham Thuan Nam district will also coordinate to implement a number of effective production models such as: Organic dragon fruit model with an area of ​​15 hectares in Ham Minh commune, medicinal plant growing model (dioscorea) with an area of ​​about 2.7 hectares in Ham Kiem, Thuan Quy, Ham Cuong communes...
