On the morning of April 6, the exhibition "Glory of 77 Years of Vietnamese Revolutionary Cinema" opened at Nguyen Hue walking street, marking the opening of the Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival (HIFF 2024).

The exhibition displays many photos commemorating historical milestones and important figures throughout nearly 8 decades of Vietnamese revolutionary cinema's formation and development up to now.
In addition, the exhibition also features many moments from the production process of documentaries produced by Bung Bien - Nam Bo revolutionary cinema.
For example, the work Battle of Moc Hoa - the first war documentary produced by Cinema Zone 8 in 1948, Tra Vinh Campaign (1950)... produced by Cinema Zone 8.
Viewers will see firsthand the first filmmakers of Vietnamese cinema working with rudimentary filming and editing tools.
However, they still fulfilled the mission of revolutionary cinema, helping to preserve historical footage, recreating glorious battles of the Vietnamese revolution and laying the first foundations for the birth of the "seventh art" in our country.
The exhibition will take place from now until April 13 at Nguyen Hue walking street.
Some milestones of Vietnamese cinema on display at HIFF 2024
A scene from the documentary The Battle of Moc Hoa, filmed by three directors Mai Loc, Vu Son and Khuong Me from August 1948 and premiered on December 22 of the same year. This is considered the first documentary film of the Vietnamese revolutionary cinema.
Director, Meritorious Artist Khuong Me was one of the first members of the Nhiep - Cinema Group of Zone 8, established by the Political Commissar of Zone 8 in October 1947 in Bung Bien - Dong Thap Muoi.
The Ciné Almanach Prisma was used as a reference for Bung Bien filmmakers in 1947 - this is an amateur filmmaking guidebook, including filming techniques illustrated with drawings and diagrams.
On the night of December 24, 1948, the first documentary screening in the history of Southern cinema took place at the Military Club on the banks of Duong Van Duong canal, Nhan Hoa Lap commune, Moc Hoa district, Long An province. On the screen was the film Battle of Moc Hoa.
