Mr. Joseph Spence has been the principal of Dulwich College since 2009. This is a private school founded in 1619, located in London (UK), specializing in boys, with quite expensive tuition fees, about 55,000 pounds/year (equivalent to 1.8 billion VND/year).
Mr. Spence had planned to retire in August 2025. But after losing his temper at a staff party at the school, he decided to stop working a year earlier than originally planned. Accordingly, he will stop working at the school from this September.

In an open letter to staff and parents, the 64-year-old principal wrote: "You are probably aware that I lost my temper with a staff member at the school's staff party on July 4. This is the only time in my career that such an incident has occurred.
That incident made me reconsider the pressures that my current job position puts on me. Leading an organization with complex operations, bringing together staff, students and parents from many countries like Dulwich School has posed challenges for me, especially in recent years."
Mr Spence said he had personally apologised to the staff he was angry with. A member of the school board will be appointed as interim principal until a new principal is appointed.
Mr. Adrian Carr, chairman of the school's board of trustees, said that because of Mr. Joseph Spence's long-standing dedication to the school, Mr. Spence will continue to serve on the school's advisory board.
Last year, Mr Spence was shortlisted for the best private school principals by the UK 's Times Educational Supplement .
