On the evening of October 14, at the French Embassy in Vietnam, the launching ceremony of the Club of "Former doctors and pharmacists studying in the French Republic" took place and the awarding ceremony of the Academic Palm Medal to Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Tu, Rector of Hanoi Medical University.
The Order of Academic Palms awarded by the Government of the French Republic is a recognition of Professor, Dr. Nguyen Huu Tu's contributions to the development of Francophone cooperation in Vietnam and especially French-Vietnamese medical training cooperation.
30 years ago (October 1994), Dr. Nguyen Huu Tu and nearly 100 colleagues from different specialties were selected and sent to France for a one-year residency. During his later work, continuing to go to France to work and research a few more times was an opportunity for him to see more of the value of the Franco-Vietnamese medical cooperation relationship, to feel more of the teacher-student relationship, and to expand his friendship with French friends.
Over the past 15 years, as Vice Rector in charge of University Training, Head of the French Language Program and then Rector of Hanoi Medical University, Professor, Dr. Nguyen Huu Tu has made many contributions in connecting and building exchange programs for training cooperation, student and lecturer exchange with prestigious and long-standing universities and institutes in France such as: Sorbonne University, Montpellier Medical University, Aix Marseille Medical University...

To date, more than 1,000 medical students have been enrolled and trained in the French-enhanced medical doctor training program, and many alumni of this program have become core lecturers of the program. Every year, 200 to 300 French and Vietnamese students participate in short-term exchange programs; building a French-speaking environment at Hanoi Medical University... To date, Hanoi Medical University has awarded the title of honorary professor to more than 30 French professors.
Over the past 122 years, Hanoi Medical University, with its first President, Dr. Alexandre Yersin, a brilliant French scientist, has always been a historical, vivid and effective symbol of the French-Vietnamese medical relationship and cooperation.
According to the announcement of the organizing committee, since 1993, with the support of the French Government, many medical training projects, expert exchanges, and provision of medical equipment and medicines have been implemented. Training programs for doctors and pharmacists in France, inter-university training in Vietnam, support for the development of university hospital centers in Hanoi... have not only contributed to the modernization of the Vietnamese health system but have also trained thousands of excellent specialists for the country. Many of them have become leading experts in their fields, holding important positions in the health sector.

On the occasion of the 19th Francophone Summit held in France in October 2024, originating from the idea of the Embassy of the French Republic in Vietnam and Hanoi Medical University..., the club "former doctors and pharmacists studying in the French Republic" was proposed to be established as a place to share and update information on Vietnam - France medical cooperation and together recall memories with France while creating a connection between generations of Vietnamese doctors and pharmacists who have studied and trained in France, which is the foundation to promote the younger generation to continue to develop and inherit the good tradition in medical and pharmaceutical training between Vietnam and France.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, Former Minister of Health, President of the club "former doctors and pharmacists studying in the French Republic" said: After a short time of announcement and mobilization, nearly 200 doctors and pharmacists who had studied in the French Republic from all regions, agencies from the Ministry of Health, universities, research institutes, central and local hospitals registered to join the club.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Tien hopes and expects further development in French-Vietnamese medical cooperation, strengthening training, research and exchange activities between doctors and pharmacists who have studied in France, connecting generations for common development.

Speaking at the ceremony, Professor, Dr. Tran Van Thuan, Deputy Minister of Health, congratulated Professor, Dr. Nguyen Huu Tu on receiving the "Academic Palm" Medal, a prestigious and prestigious award for his contributions to the development of French-Vietnamese medical training cooperation.
Deputy Minister Tran Van Thuan also welcomed the establishment of the Club of Former Doctors and Pharmacists Studying in the French Republic. This is an extremely meaningful milestone in the Vietnam-France cooperation relationship in general and the medical cooperation relationship in particular. The Club will become an effective connection channel between Vietnam and the French Republic in the coming time, further promoting the cooperative relationship that has been very good in recent times.
