Following the success of the first season in 2023, the Vietnam International Half Marathon 2024 sponsored by Herbalife - Vietnam International Half Marathon 2024 powered by Herbalife (VIHM 2024 powered by Herbalife), the first professional running tournament in Vietnam, attracted nearly 5,000 athletes to participate in two categories.
The two systems include the Advanced system for professional athletes from the Vietnam Athletics team and international professional athletes; the Amateur system for domestic and foreign athletes registering to compete in 3 distances: half marathon (21.0975km), 10km and 5km.
This year, the tournament gathered a large number of Vietnamese track and field athletes, competing with professional athletes from Laos, Thailand, Kenya... and some athletes from other countries such as the US, Japan, Germany, Sweden...
As a result, in the advanced 21km event, Hoang Nguyen Thanh and Nguyen Thi Oanh won the championship and broke the tournament record. Hoang Nguyen Thanh won the men's professional category with a time of 01 hour 06 minutes 39 seconds (01:06:39), breaking the record of 01:07:39 set by Do Quoc Luat in 2023.
Meanwhile, in the women's professional 21km category, Nguyen Thi Oanh successfully defended her championship title. At the same time, with a time of 01:15:10, the girl from Bac Giang broke her own tournament record set last year of 1:15:23.
“ Today is really a great day for me. Before the tournament, I was quite worried because I had some health problems, but today everything is great! I myself was very surprised and happy when I was announced that I had set a new record. I hope that this will be a milestone and a stepping stone for me to continue my journey towards the next goals and start a brilliant new year 2024 ” - Nguyen Thi Oanh said.
In addition, with the desire to expand the playing field for participating athletes, this year's tournament has other categories such as Sport Family, sports walking and especially the Team tournament with attractive prize structure.
In particular, the event also had a response activity to guide proper walking and launch a walking movement among the entire population (walking around the lake), with the guidance of two leading Vietnamese walking athletes, Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc and Nguyen Thanh Ngung.
