On September 4, Haberturk newspaper quoted a source from the Turkish Presidential Palace as saying that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will attend the BRICS Summit, scheduled to be held in Kazan (Russia) next October.

The information was released after a statement by Russian Presidential Assistant for Foreign Policy Yury Ushakov, who affirmed: "Türkiye has applied for membership in BRICS."
On the same day, on the Telegram channel, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said he had accepted Russian President Vladimir Putin's invitation to attend the BRICS Summit.
Notably, the Russian leader directly invited the head of the Malaysian government at a bilateral meeting within the framework of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Russia recently.
"This is a significant step forward on Malaysia's path to joining BRICS," Prime Minister Ibrahim stressed.
In a related development, President Putin plans to hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the 2024 BRICS Summit.
As planned, the event will take place from October 22-24 in the Russian city of Kazan.
Leaders of 36 countries from different regions have been invited to the Summit, of which 18 have confirmed their participation.
