On the afternoon of January 16, sharing with VietNamNet, Mr. Nguyen Van Khuon, Head of the Thu Duc City Health Department (HCMC) said that this agency had worked with Nguyen Hien Primary School (Thu Duc City), related to the case of dozens of students absent from school.

According to initial information, since the afternoon of January 15, some students at the school have shown signs of stomachache and fever. Parents have informed their homeroom teachers, the school and updated the group chat. Some parents are concerned that the cause may be food poisoning.

Mr. Khuon said that as of the morning of January 16, Nguyen Hien Primary School recorded 70 children absent from school, of which 24 children had symptoms of fever and stomachache. The number of children with symptoms was evenly distributed between 1-2 children in each class, some classes did not record any cases. Thu Duc City Health Department, together with the school's Board of Directors, Parents' Association and related agencies, surveyed and conducted an investigation this morning.

"The symptoms of stomachache and fever of the 24 children overlap with many other diseases. We have conducted a thorough investigation and found that there is not enough basis to conclude that there is food poisoning. If it was caused by food, the number of people affected would certainly be much higher," said Mr. Khuon.

When asked by a reporter whether food samples kept at the school would be taken for testing, Mr. Khuon said this was being done.

It is known that as of this afternoon, the number of students with signs of stomachache and fever in a class of grade 3 has reached 13 children. At the same time, the representative of the Parents Association of Nguyen Hien Primary School also sent a notice to parents about the initial verification results.

Accordingly, the meeting included the school's Board of Directors, the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City, the Department of Health of Thu Duc City, the Health Department of Thu Duc City, the Health Department and the People's Committee of An Phu Ward... "The reason why the children had stomachaches and fevers was not due to the food from the school meal on January 15, 2024," the minutes stated. The school and the Parents' Association also asked parents to monitor and report on the health of their children. At the same time, they asked not to buy food and drinks sold in front of the school gate to ensure the safety of children.
