HA TINH RESILIENT CLUB
When Tien Linh successfully kicked the penalty to put Binh Duong Club ahead with a score of 2-0, many people probably thought that Ha Tinh Club's 12-match unbeaten streak would end there. Coach Nguyen Thanh Cong and his team faced many disadvantages: having to play away at Go Dau Stadium, where the home team Binh Duong won more than they lost, being pressured throughout the first half, and having a 2-goal gap that was very difficult to overcome.
Ha Tinh Club (right) steadfastly kept 1 point to remain unbeaten in the first leg
However, it is no coincidence that Ha Tinh FC has been unbeaten since the beginning of the tournament (won 3, drawn 9), and has only lost 1 of the last 16 matches. The last time Xuan Truong and his teammates lost a match was 8 months ago. Ha Tinh FC was once (and still is) nicknamed "Hoa Tinh" because of the many draws, but that is also the thorny and resilient nature of this team. Never surrender to adversity. Ha Tinh FC has a hard time winning, having only enjoyed complete joy 3 times since the beginning of the tournament. However, it is also very difficult for opponents to defeat Ha Tinh FC, and the spectacular chase at Go Dau Stadium yesterday (February 16) explained why up to now, only Mr. Nguyen Thanh Cong and his team are undefeated.
Because despite being at a disadvantage, Ha Tinh Club only needed 20 minutes of fighting back at the end of the match to turn the game around. Geovane Magno cleverly broke the offside trap to shorten the score in the 79th minute, before Quang Nam took advantage of a mistake in the Binh Duong defense to shoot diagonally to seal the 2-2 draw. However, those were not lucky moments falling from the sky, but came from effort. Ha Tinh Club regained control of the game, controlled the rhythm of play well so as not to "collapse" under the pressure of the home team. Then with lightning-fast, neat and effective attacks to maximize the moment of lapse of concentration that Binh Duong Club only revealed a few times, the away team Ha Tinh closed the first leg undefeated in a way that could not be more resilient and impressive.
After 7 years, V-League has witnessed a team remaining undefeated for 13 first leg matches. If they maintain their form, the day Ha Tinh team is defeated in V-League may be far away.
HAGL IS UNCONVENTIONAL AGAIN
HAGL has enough favorable conditions to beat Binh Dinh Club in round 13 of V-League 2024 - 2025. Behind coach Le Quang Trai and his team is the "fire pan" Pleiku, where HAGL is unbeaten in 5 matches since the beginning of the tournament. Binh Dinh team has also slipped since the runner-up position last season, when they no longer have the core force (only won 1 point in the last 4 matches). However, what HAGL lacks is harmony. The opponent is declining, but Minh Vuong and his teammates are not excellent enough to win.
In the 90 minutes at Pleiku Stadium on February 16, HAGL could not overwhelm the visiting team Binh Dinh. Coach Le Quang Trai's students could only rely on foreign players like Marciel da Silva or Washington Brandao, along with high crosses from the sidelines. Depending on foreign players is a common "disease" of many V-League teams, but HAGL had no second plan when Brandao or Marciel were caught.
The draw with Binh Dinh clearly outlined HAGL's current limitations. First of all, the mountain town team is good at playing as the "underdog", with a defensive counter-attacking strategy to take advantage of the space behind the opponent's defense. This season, HAGL has won against Hanoi Club and Hanoi Police Club with quality counter-attacks. However, when facing opponents of equal or weaker strength, HAGL is not smooth enough to dominate the game. The mountain town team only won 2 out of 6 teams in the bottom half of the rankings, when defeating Quang Nam and SLNA, but was held to a draw by Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Dinh and lost to Hai Phong.
At the same time, HAGL also lacks depth. Technical Director Vu Tien Thanh has promoted 4 U.20 players (the youngest of whom is Dinh Quang Kiet, only 18 years old) to the HAGL first team. This is a good decision for the overall youth football situation when there are more "young shoots" to try their hand, but it is not good for HAGL itself. Young stars like Quang Kiet and Gia Bao are choices for the future, rather than the present. Since the beginning of the season, HAGL has only played with a single frame, combined with 3 or 4 reserve players that coach Le Quang Trai likes to use. With a squad limited in both class and depth, it is not surprising that although HAGL has a period of being at the top, Mr. Vu Tien Thanh and his students only aim for the goal of staying in the league early and then think about the next step. With 6 points more than the danger zone, HAGL still needs to make more efforts in the second leg.
