Wolverhampton have won just one game and are 16th in the table after their first six games. In the six meetings in the last three seasons, Man City have won all of them, scoring a total of 19 goals and conceding three against this opponent.

Those are the reasons why Man City fans are confident in the defending champions' chances of winning in round 7 even though they have to play away from home. However, in the match where coach Pep Guardiola was banned from coaching, the away team disappointed.

Wolverhampton had just one shot in the entire first half, which was blocked by a defender. Interestingly, though, it was the home side who took the lead against Man City. After Pedro Neto dribbled past all the defenders, the striker's pass hit Ruben Dias and into the net. Wolverhampton opened the scoring in the 13th minute.

Man City pressed the pitch but were at a standstill. They only had 2 shots on target in the first half and could not equalize. Wolverhampton's crowded defense caused many difficulties for the visitors. Erling Haaland was completely absent for most of the match.

The defending champions had to rely on a set-piece to equalise. Julian Alvarez's free kick left the Wolverhampton goalkeeper flying high but unable to block it. It was a rare bright spot for the Argentine striker in a match where he and the visitors' other two strikers, Haaland and Phil Foden, were blocked.

However, Man City's high and vulnerable defence saw them concede a goal shortly afterwards. Hwang Hee-chan took advantage of the opponent's confusion to score to put Wolverhampton ahead for the second time.

Man City went all out in attack. Meanwhile, Wolverhampton's 11 defenders remained solid, neutralising any chance the visitors had of getting close to the box. Man City failed to score and lost their first Premier League game of the season. It was also the second defeat in a row for the team - they had just lost to Newcastle in the League Cup midweek.

Result: Wolverhampton 2-1 Man City

Score

Wolverhampton: Dias (own goal - 13'), Hwang Hee-chan (66')
