The working delegation of the Hanoi Department of Health, led by Deputy Director of the Department of Health Vu Cao Cuong, inspected the preparations at the vaccination sites and highly appreciated the careful preparation of equipment and anti-shock drugs, ensuring safety throughout the vaccination process.
On the same day, Son Tay Medical Center also organized a measles vaccination campaign for children from 6 months to under 9 months old throughout the town. Parents are advised to take their children to commune and ward health stations for vaccination.
The vaccination campaign will take place throughout February 2025, from February 17 to 28. Vaccination sites may organize vaccinations on the same day or on different days depending on the actual situation in the locality.
In Hanoi, the number of measles cases is on the rise, especially among children under 9 months old. This group is not eligible for measles vaccination under the National Expanded Immunization Program, making the implementation of a measles vaccination campaign for children under 9 months old urgent.
In 2024, Vietnam recorded 7,583 measles cases, including 16 deaths related to the disease. Notably, children under 9 months old accounted for about 25% of the total cases.
Therefore, the World Health Organization (WHO) has assessed the risk of a measles outbreak in Vietnam as very high and recommended that high-risk provinces and cities immediately launch a vaccination campaign to prevent the disease.
Doctors recommend that parents strictly follow the vaccination schedule and take their children for vaccination on time to protect their health and prevent dangerous complications of measles, such as pneumonia, encephalitis, and malnutrition.
Measles vaccination helps create community immunity, protecting not only children but also those around them, especially those with weak immune systems.
Medical experts also recommend measles vaccination as the most effective measure to prevent measles and dangerous complications.
In addition to full vaccination, parents need to pay attention to other preventive measures such as personal hygiene, limiting contact with sick people, and improving children's nutrition to enhance the immune system.
