Hanoi rewards two students with special achievements

On July 30, leaders of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training commended and rewarded two students with special achievements.

Two students with special achievements are Dang Tuan Anh, class 12, specialized biology, Chu Van An High School, who won the gold medal at the 2024 International Biology Olympiad (IBO), and Huynh Trieu Dien, class 5A2, Giang Bien Primary School (Long Bien District) for his brave act of saving people in distress.

This year's IBO competition had 320 contestants from 81 countries and territories participating. With his achievements, Tuan Anh contributed to helping the Vietnamese team rank 3rd out of 81 countries and territories.

Previously, Tuan Anh participated in and won many other awards such as first prize in the city-level excellent student competition, second prize in the national excellent student competition, received the Odon Vallet scholarship and a certificate of merit from the Minister of Education and Training for two consecutive years of high school.

Huynh Trieu Dien once saved a child who was drowning while swimming in the sea in Duy Hai commune, Duy Son district (Quang Nam province). Discovering the child in distress outside the buoy, Trieu Dien swam out to bring the child to shore.

Previously, Trieu Dien won a gold medal at the 12th Young Talent Swimming Competition of Ba Dinh District (Hanoi) and a gold medal at the Bac Ninh Open Swimming Competition. He is also a student with good academic achievements, especially in math and English.

When receiving the award, Dien said he would give a portion to the child he saved to buy school supplies for the new school year because he is in difficult circumstances.

In the 2023-2024 school year, Hanoi leads the country in key education with 184 national awards, including 14 first prizes. High school graduation results ranked 12th, up 4 places compared to the previous school year.
