The report found that consumers in Southeast Asia are ordering more frequently than before, and are increasingly engaging with GrabFood for needs other than food delivery.
GrabFood is currently the most used online food delivery service in Vietnam.
In Vietnam alone, 9 out of 10 (91%) of users surveyed said they are using the Grab app to discover new restaurants and stores they have never tried before. Food delivery apps are now the most popular way for users in Southeast Asia to discover new restaurants, surpassing food blogs, recommendations from family and friends, and social media platforms.
The report, which combines the results of a survey of Southeast Asian food delivery and online grocery users with data from the Grab platform, also shows that consumers’ dining journeys are increasingly blending online and offline experiences. More than 90% of users said they read online reviews, more than 60% of users have purchased prepaid vouchers online, and more than 70% have ordered online while sitting at a restaurant.
Mr. Ma Tuan Trong, Commercial Director of Grab Vietnam, said: "Delivery platforms like Grab are increasingly playing an indispensable role in the daily culinary experiences of Vietnamese consumers. We understand that Grab is not only an application that users trust when they want to order food delivery. We also help them discover new restaurants or stores, through reviews on the application to support them in making the right choice, and constantly strive to bring new solutions to users who want to dine at restaurants."
The report also pointed out that group ordering is a feature on GrabFood that allows multiple people to place an order together and split the delivery fee. In Vietnam, the number of orders using this feature in the first half of 2023 was 4 times higher than the same period in 2022. This feature is most commonly used during lunchtime and for orders delivered to corporate offices.
In addition, users' awareness of environmental protection is increasing: 47% of users in Vietnam said they are willing to pay more for environmentally friendly brands and 93% of users tend to support brands with sustainable activities.
It is known that this is a survey conducted by Kantar and Grab in August 2023, with the participation of 6,242 users in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
