Recently, General Director of the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) Pham Le Phu inspected the operation of the 500 kV North-South power transmission system in the provinces of Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh.
Lines are full and overloaded.
At Ninh Binh Power Transmission, Mr. Vu Van Loc, Director of Ninh Binh Power Transmission, said that Ninh Binh Power Transmission is assigned to manage and operate the transmission grid in the provinces of Ninh Binh, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Ha Nam and part of Hoa Binh province with 780 km of 220 - 500 kV lines, with a total of 8 transformer stations, transformer capacity of 5,325 MVA.
In the face of the prolonged hot weather, through operational monitoring statistics, during the peak hot weather period with high load, many power lines and transformers under the management of Ninh Binh Power Transmission Grid often experience full and overloaded operation.
To ensure power supply in the North during the current tense 2023 dry season, the National Power System Dispatch Center has raised the short-term transmission capacity threshold to 2,600 MVA on the 500 kV Nho Quan - Nghi Son 2 - Ha Tinh line in the South - North direction during some peak hours, to prioritize the goal of retaining water for multi-purpose hydropower reservoirs in the North.
At Thanh Hoa Power Transmission, Mr. Lu Thanh Hai, Director of Thanh Hoa Power Transmission, said that the unit manages and operates more than 750 km with 5 transformer stations with a total transformer capacity of 1,625 MVA. The hot weather has lasted for a long time and the temperature has increased rapidly, with Nghi Son Town recording a temperature of more than 40 degrees Celsius, causing the operation situation to be tense.
Playing the most important role in transmitting electricity to the north, the transmission grid at Ha Tinh Power Transmission is always operating under stress. Mr. Nguyen Sy Thang, Director of Ha Tinh Power Transmission, said that starting from May 19, the first heat wave of 2023 appeared, the load on the 500 kV lines in Ha Tinh area began to increase, especially the 500 kV Ha Tinh - Vung Ang line increased to over 80% of the standard. The 500 kV voltage mode at the transformer station nodes often exceeded the threshold. The 220 kV line bays were often operating at full load and overload.
Maximum resources allocated to the 500 kV North-South axis
EVNNPT General Director Pham Le Phu acknowledged and highly appreciated Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Ha Tinh Power Transmission for proactively implementing solutions to ensure safe and stable grid operation during the recent hot weather and stressful, full-load grid operation.
Assessing the importance of the two 500 kV North-South transmission lines from Ha Tinh to Nho Quan in ensuring electricity for the North, the EVNNPT General Director requested the leaders of Power Transmission Company 1 (PTC1) and power transmission lines to continue focusing on operating and implementing solutions to ensure safe and continuous operation of the power grid during the hot season according to the direction of Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN)/EVNNPT.
The unit needs to strengthen operational management, absolutely not allowing subjective incidents to occur. Strengthen monitoring of operational situations, especially the 500 kV North-South connecting line, minimize incidents occurring during high transmission periods and review and fully prepare incident handling plans. Strengthen the on-call force to operate/handle incidents for high-load lines and elements in extreme operating modes.
EVNNPT General Director requested PTC1 to promptly arrange human and material resources to support Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Ha Tinh Power Transmission to ensure the best operation of the 500 kV power transmission line, be ready in all situations, and ensure continuous, safe, and stable transmission during the hot season.
Units must prioritize ensuring electricity supply as the top, highest, and most important goal. All work related to or supporting the activities of ensuring electricity supply must be directed, implemented, and resolved immediately by the leaders of the corporation and the leaders of the units.
