Education is not about training "superhumans" who are good at everything.

In fact, for a long time, we often only evaluate children through scores (test scores, school report cards, etc.). Meanwhile, admission based only on scores is one-sided. According to Howard Garner's theory of multiple intelligences, there are up to 8 types of intelligence: logical - mathematical, kinesthetic, visual-spatial, linguistic, musical, interpersonal, naturalistic, and intrapersonal. Therefore, through the test, we often emphasize the superiority in logical - mathematical, and linguistic. So, what about students who are capable of other types of intelligence?

Because of wrong assessments, we can easily misdirect our children, unintentionally pushing them into the cycle of studying and studying for exams. That is the reality of many children who are having to study hard day and night, study on weekends, study in the summer, practice for exams, practice questions...

Comprehensive education is not about training "superhumans" who are good at all subjects, just like the story of not forcing a fish to climb a tree. Many countries in the world recruit students who are outstanding in some aspect, not just based on their scores. It is not surprising that a young person who is weak in Math can still be admitted to a famous school.

Returning to the story of education in our country, perhaps there are still many children who are still carrying the burden of exams. There have been many valuable lessons from the pressure of studying. The fear of failing exams, the fear of being in specialized schools makes many children lose faith in themselves, even committing foolish acts.

Most people still believe in evaluating a child's ability through admission to a specialized school, through a good report card, and through perfect 10s. When will adults give children the right to fail exams, the right to experience, the right to fail, and respect their efforts regardless of the results?

Students need a learning environment that allows them to develop their self-worth and participate in learning projects that apply knowledge to solve real-life problems, not just solve math problems quickly or write essays according to a template.

In reality, no educational model is perfect for everyone. The important thing is to prevent children from being pressured by studying and taking exams. Many educational experts and psychologists still speak out, saying that it is necessary to reduce the time spent on learning letters so that children can learn to be human, learn life skills, practice skills, etc.

Above all, family education is always the number one factor in the process of educating children. However, many parents put school education as the number one, they entrust their children to teachers and expect a bright future.

To reduce the pressure on children to study, perhaps parents need to change first. Parents should reorient their children's education, that their goal is not to get into a specialized school, not to get an award, not to get into a prestigious university. The important thing is to educate children to achieve basic elements such as life skills, aiming to become a good and happy person.

To do so, children cannot "waste" time in extra classes, or diligently solve homework even during holidays and weekends, because what is the point of studying day and night? Above all, parents should sympathize and accompany their children. Children are like trees, parents need to nurture and water them regularly.

In a broader sense, it is the story of four children who miraculously survived in the Amazon rainforest and were rescued by Colombian rescue forces on June 9. The eldest, 13 years old, used the skills she learned from her grandmother’s game to help the children survive in the Amazon rainforest while waiting for rescue forces. That is, the survival skills from the game helped the children cope with dangerous situations they encountered in life.

We are living in a globalized world, so the way we educate must also change. In fact, besides knowledge, children need to learn critical thinking, communication skills, the ability to control information, and the ability to cope with all difficulties.

Perhaps, we do not need “output products” that can solve math problems quickly, but we need people who know how to solve problems and work effectively in groups. From there, children can not only develop knowledge and skills but also awareness and lifestyle, and not be confused when entering life.

To create a successful and happy young person, it is necessary to arouse and nurture passion as well as help children develop their own strengths. Children also need to learn and practice how to behave with parents, teachers, adults, and friends; and to practice self-confidence such as speaking, discussing, and debating in front of a crowd. When these factors are emphasized, the yardstick set in each exam will certainly no longer be based on scores.
