2023 is a very special year for Vovinam Viet Vo Dao, when celebrating events: the 111th anniversary of the birth of founder Nguyen Loc, the 85th anniversary of the founding of the sect and welcoming the successful 3rd Congress of the World Vovinam Federation (WVVF) (2023 - 2027). In particular, Vovinam has just been recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage. This is the premise to move towards making Vovinam a World Intangible Cultural Heritage.
In order to create conditions for Vovinam students around the world to have the opportunity to celebrate the above events, WVVF has decided to organize the 7th Vovinam World Championship in Ho Chi Minh City. This is also an opportunity to affirm that Vovinam is increasingly developing and strongly integrating into the international sports family.
Vovinam performance at the opening ceremony of the 2023 Vovinam World Championship
The tournament will officially take place from November 22 to November 30, 2023 at Phu Tho Sports Stadium, Ho Chi Minh City. The tournament has the participation of more than 650 officials, referees, coaches, and athletes from 35 countries and territories with developed Vovinam movements in 4 continents: Asia, Europe, Africa, and Australia. This is the tournament with the largest number of participating countries and athletes in the history of the Vovinam World Championship since its establishment. Athletes will compete in 44 sets of medals, including 26 forms and 18 weight categories for combat.
Mr. Mai Huu Tin - President of WVVF, concurrently President of Vietnam Vovinam Federation said: “Of the more than 70 countries and territories where Vovinam is present globally, 51 countries and territories have their representatives participating in WVVF. Of these, 35 countries and territories sent delegations to participate in the 2023 Vovinam World Championship in Ho Chi Minh City. On behalf of WVVF and representing Vovinam of the host country, I would like to respectfully send Vovinam greetings to all of you and express my gratitude for the great efforts of the federations and member Vovinam associations”.
Representatives of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also awarded the National Intangible Cultural Heritage Certificate to the Vovinam - Viet Vo Dao sect.

The opening ceremony of the 2023 World Vovinam Championship took place on the afternoon of November 24, 2023, at Phu Tho Sports Stadium. At the opening ceremony, representatives of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also awarded the National Intangible Cultural Heritage Certificate to the Vovinam Viet Vo Dao sect. Also in the program of the ceremony, the Vietnamese Vovinam team and outstanding international athletes from 4 continents performed together "The Quintessence of Vovinam - The Quintessence of Vietnamese Martial Arts", with many attractive and unique performances.
In particular, this is also the only Vovinam tournament in the world where the organizing committee covers all expenses for food, accommodation, and domestic travel for the participating delegations, including: delegation leaders, officials, referees, coaches, and athletes.
