The Vietnam Musicians Association has just awarded the 2023 Music Awards. However, many genres such as: Instrumental Music, Art Songs, Chamber Music, Theory and Criticism Books... have left the A prize vacant.
Associate Professor, Dr. Do Hong Quan, Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, assessed the artistic quality of the work.
Associate Professor, Dr. Do Hong Quan, Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, Chairman of the Art Council of the Vietnam Musicians Association, commented: "In general, instrumental and vocal music genres have a large number of songs, demonstrating very active professional activities, works on many different topics...
However, there are some scores that are not well written and still have errors because of a lack of understanding of the symphony orchestra and the characteristics of musical instruments. Some works have loose arrangements of parts, discordant harmonics, or empty parts, and the harmony is mainly homophonic. Some works lack instrumentality and have contrast, but the effect is still low, the sound image is dull and simple.
Regarding the vocal genre, the language is creative, however, many musicians follow the old creative path, without any new exploration in artistic creation, some works of popular poetry follow the lyrics, singing poetry is not concise, not expressing the ideas, thinking and musical language of the composer. The field of children's songs does not have many works that need more attention.
In 2023, the number of participating works and theoretical and critical works is less than last year, but the quality of the works and works submitted ensures the ranking criteria. Many books on in-depth research, music criticism, introduction of traditional musical heritage, portraits of authors, works, etc.
Musician Do Hong Quan emphasized that the Award is an activity to honor musicians, artists and their outstanding musical creations in the fields of composition, performance, critical theory and training. Thereby, it continues to encourage musicians, artists, critical theorists, music teachers to continue to create and contribute to the country's music in particular and the country's literature and arts in general.
