DNVN - Da Nang tourism industry has identified challenges and risks, and implemented appropriate orientations and solutions to continue attracting tourists in the context of fierce competition among current destinations.
Under great competitive pressure
According to the Da Nang Department of Tourism, in 2024, the total number of visitors is expected to reach 10.3 million, an increase of nearly 40% compared to 2023 and exceeding 30% compared to 2019. Of which, international visitors are estimated to reach 4.2 million, 2.1 times higher than in 2023 and exceeding nearly 30% compared to 2019. Domestic visitors are estimated to reach more than 6 million, an increase of 13% compared to the same period in 2023 and exceeding 27% compared to 2019.

Ms. Truong Thi Hong Hanh - Director of Da Nang Department of Tourism, affirmed: "The city's tourism activities in 2024 will continue to grow strongly. Da Nang has been affirming its brand as an attractive, safe, green, clean, beautiful and hospitable destination. The city has also been continuously honored with many awards and favorite votes from domestic and foreign tourists".
According to Chairman of the Da Nang Tourism Association Cao Tri Dung, despite achieving remarkable results, the city’s tourism industry is facing great competitive pressure from other domestic and international destinations. Many localities have applied flexible and attractive policies such as visa exemption, giving cash vouchers to tourists, supporting airlines to open flight routes, and investing heavily in large-scale events and festivals.
Mr. Dung emphasized that if Da Nang does not continue to innovate tourism products, improve service quality and ensure a green, clean, beautiful and safe environment, it will face the risk of losing its attractiveness to tourists.
Strategic direction and solutions
At the City Party Committee conference at the end of 2024, leaders of the Da Nang Department of Tourism proposed strategic directions to increase tourist attraction in the context of fierce competition.
Specifically, the city will focus resources on attracting investment in key tourism projects, developing new, unique and high-quality tourism products. In particular, Da Nang prioritizes the development of 8 key product types including: resort tourism, entertainment tourism, event and festival tourism, MICE tourism, golf tourism, night tourism, culinary tourism and wedding tourism.
In addition, the city encourages the development of high-end and super luxury products, applying the criteria of “high quality” in all customer services. Festivals and major events will continue to be held to attract tourists. At the same time, Da Nang will promote communication, promote destinations and expand the market through the development of more direct international flights.
The Department of Tourism also recommended that city leaders focus on implementing the tourism development plan until 2030 and vision to 2045, with the goal of turning Da Nang into a high-quality tourism center of Vietnam and Southeast Asia.
The city will implement three breakthroughs to develop tourism, including: investing in developing tourism products, expanding the market and stimulating tourism demand, improving service quality and developing human resources.
Removing difficulties for key projects
The Da Nang Department of Tourism has requested that relevant agencies promptly remove obstacles to speed up the progress of key tourism projects such as the "River of Light" complex and inland waterway wharf, Nam O eco-tourism area, service complex serving the international fireworks festival and large commercial centers such as AEON Mall or Mega Market Da Nang.
Ms. Hanh emphasized that the city needs to have breakthrough mechanisms to organize major festival events, attract investment businesses and promote destinations in the international market. In addition, it is necessary to open more international flights, encourage large corporations to invest in tourism and build international-class entertainment centers.
