Golf Tournament Joining Hands for Traffic Safety: Spreading Goodness from a Bridge of Charity

After 5 years of organization, the Join Hands for Traffic Safety Golf Tournament has become a bridge connecting kind hearts to the community, especially unfortunate victims of traffic accidents.

It is that good meaning that has helped the tournament spread more and more, causing great resonance.

With the hardship

In late October, visiting the family of Tran Chi Hieu (33 years old, residing in Thanh Phu hamlet, Tan Hung Dong commune, Cai Nuoc district, Ca Mau province), Giao thong Newspaper reporters were surprised. The temporary shack had been replaced by a solid house.

Mr. Hieu's family's ground-floor house was solidly built thanks to funding from the Joining Hands for Traffic Safety Program.

Mr. Hieu is the case that received nearly 200 million VND in support from the Traffic Safety Program of Giao thong Newspaper. Previously, in 2018, he had a traffic accident that resulted in a traumatic brain injury, his wife left him, and he lived precariously in a ragged shack.

Sharing about her current life, Ms. To Thi Phuong (55 years old, stepmother of Mr. Hieu) shared: "Receiving support from the Traffic Safety Program of Giao thong Newspaper, the family has rebuilt a level 4 house, opened a small grocery store, life is no longer as difficult as before".

At the end of 2023, the Joining Hands for Traffic Safety Program sponsored 1 billion VND to build Cham Pong spillway in Ngoc Chien commune, Muong La district, Son La province. In March 2024, Cham Pong spillway was inaugurated to the joy of the people of Cham Pong and Nam Nghep villages. After nearly 8 months of use, this spillway has helped people of the two villages travel and trade conveniently, and students go to school more safely.

Mr. Giang A Chu, Head of Nam Nghep village, said: "Previously, every time there was a flood, Nam Nghep and Cham Pong villages were sometimes isolated for half a month by the strong currents, seriously affecting the people's lives. Since the bridge was built, the people are very happy, there is no longer any separation, goods circulate smoothly. Thanks to that, the price of agricultural products has also increased instead of being suppressed by injuries.

For example, this year, Son Tra apples have increased from 5,000 VND to 15,000 VND/kg. The prices of agricultural products have also doubled. The bridge also contributes to connecting Nam Nghep tourism, the number of visitors coming to climb the mountain and admire Son Tra has increased compared to previous years. The people's lives have improved significantly thanks to that."

Responsibility to the community

Since its establishment in 2013, the Traffic Safety Program has helped thousands of people in difficult circumstances due to traffic accidents, awarded 400 scholarships, and built dozens of houses and rural traffic bridges worth billions of VND.

According to Ms. Nga, to maintain the Program "Joining Hands for Traffic Safety" over the years, Giao Thong Newspaper has organized many sports tournaments incorporating the message "Joining Hands for Traffic Safety" to call for resources.

Thanks to tournaments such as football, marathon or golf, the program has received enthusiastic contributions from many businesses inside and outside the industry, organizations and individuals both domestically and internationally.

"Without the cooperation and contribution of society, the Joining Hands for Traffic Safety Program would not be able to help so many unfortunate lives, build so many bridges and charity houses. Therefore, sports tournaments, including the 5th Joining Hands for Traffic Safety Golf Tournament, are like a bridge connecting kind hearts with the community," said Ms. Nga.

It is known that the 5th Golf Tournament for Traffic Safety was held at Hoang Gia Golf Course (Ninh Binh) on November 3, Thanh Cong Group is the main sponsor.

The Golf Tournament for Traffic Safety has about more than 200 golfers participating.

This year’s tournament brings together about 220 golfers with an extremely attractive prize structure, totaling nearly 3 billion VND, including 8 Hole in One prizes. Notably, at the award ceremony, the Organizing Committee will auction off items to raise funds for charity.

Mr. Dang Tat Thanh, Vice President and General Secretary of the Hanoi Golf Association, said that the Giao Thong Newspaper's use of the golf tournament to call for social resources to help traffic accident victims is a very valuable gesture.

"Sports are not only for physical training but also help us connect with each other and it is even better when we work together towards the goal of sharing the pain with the unfortunate," Mr. Thanh said.

Meanwhile, golfer Khuc Huu Thanh Hai expressed his excitement at competing in a humanitarian tournament: "I am not a good player, and neither are many golfers who come to the tournament. But we come here because we want to join the organizers in spreading good things to the community. Therefore, who wins is not so important, what is important is how many people are helped after the tournament ends."

Mr. Thanh and Mr. Hai also share the same wish that the Golf Tournament for Traffic Safety will be maintained, further enhanced, and become more professional in the future.

"The organizing committee has been doing very well, but I expect that with each season, the tournament will become more systematic and of better quality. In addition, I hope that the images of the tournament and the charity journey will be more widely communicated so that the tournament will gather more hearts to share from sponsors," Mr. Hai expressed.
