Quang Ninh's winter agricultural production this year took place in the context of the whole industry having just suffered heavy damage from Typhoon No. 3 Yagi. After the storm, the agricultural sector is determined to effectively implement winter crop production, using the winter crop to increase value, ensuring the best possible growth for Quang Ninh's agricultural sector in 2024 as well as creating momentum for Quang Ninh's agriculture in 2025.

In the third storm, thousands of hectares of rice and crops were flooded in Dong Trieu rice granary, and a large number of crops and livestock were drowned. Thanks to the initiative of farmers, very quickly afterwards, the flower, ornamental plant, vegetable, corn, and potato areas of Dong Trieu were deployed, promptly entering the 2024 winter crop. In mid-December, the flower, kumquat, and peach blossom fields in Binh Khe, a key winter crop production area of ​​Dong Trieu, entered the strongest development stage. The kumquat trees here were partly supported after the storm, partly newly planted, supplemented, and intercropped. Up to now, the trees have strong trunks, good leaves, and are ready to flower and bear fruit. The entire flower and ornamental plant field of Binh Khe is green, fresh, and full of vitality.

Taking advantage of the favorable weather, Mr. Phung Van Thang and his wife in Doc Man area, Binh Khe ward, Dong Trieu city focused on pruning the dandelion flowers. Mr. Thang said: Usually, the dandelion crop at the end of the year always brings a good source of income for the family. This year, my wife and I also planted 6 sao of dandelion flowers, hoping that the flowers will bloom right on Tet holiday and sell for a high price, bringing a full and prosperous Tet.

In Mam Te field in Bac Ma 1 area, Binh Duong ward, Dong Trieu city, people are cultivating potato plants. Dozens of modern agricultural equipment are used by people, helping plowing and cultivating work not be as hard as before. Agricultural mechanization is becoming more and more popular in Dong Trieu's winter crop fields, partly because the value of winter crop cultivation is quite high, helping people have economic conditions, and partly because of the requirements of the production trend according to the agricultural value chain.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Van's family's potato field is the greenest in Mam Te field. With more than 10 years of experience growing potatoes, Ms. Van believes that this potato crop will be successful for her family. Ms. Van said: Previously, people abandoned their fields during the winter crop. Since growing potatoes, the income has been good, people have planted regularly, and there is no vacant land.

Along with Dong Trieu, localities across the province are taking advantage of relatively favorable weather conditions to speed up the progress of planting winter crops, ensuring the plan to provide enough products before and after the Lunar New Year 2025. In particular, Quang Yen town strives to plant over 1,600 hectares of vegetables in the winter crop of 2024. The localities of Dam Ha, Tien Yen, Binh Lieu, Mong Cai, Hai Ha, Uong Bi, Ha Long, Van Don... on the basis of adjusting the socio-economic development scenario in accordance with the practical situation after storm No. 3 have all focused on promoting strengths for a number of agricultural production activities, including increasing the planting area, creating conditions to encourage establishments, cooperatives, production and business cooperatives to promote their strengths in processing raw materials, in order to increase the value of goods... Localities also do a good job of investigating and forecasting the situation, guiding farmers to organize timely prevention and control of pests and diseases on plants. winter crop; strengthen inspection of agricultural materials and pesticides trading...

Mr. Nguyen Van Sy, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Cong Hoa Ward, Quang Yen Town, said: We have worked with the people to eradicate pests and diseases, ensure irrigation water supply, connect and introduce input materials and consume output agricultural products for the people... with the aim of increasing the value of winter crop production in the area.

According to the winter crop production scenario of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, this winter crop, the whole province strives to achieve a planting area of ​​8,000 hectares, an increase of 343 hectares compared to last year; strives to achieve a total grain crop output of over 4,400 tons and strives to achieve a winter crop value of over 1,500 billion VND. To achieve these targets, the provincial Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection has early reviewed and advised the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development on the types and areas of crops as well as the cultivation process and specific pest control for each type of crop. Mr. Nguyen Khac Long, Deputy Head of the Provincial Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection, shared: The Department has advised the province to distribute 5,000 tons of corn seeds to support people, guide people on pest control, and encourage people to take advantage of the area to cultivate winter crops... As of mid-December, the whole province has harvested and supplied to the market nearly 100,000 tons of various types of winter vegetables, on a cultivated area of ​​about 2,500 hectares. Winter crops are growing well, promising to bring high output, value, revenue and profit, contributing to improving the quality of people's lives.
