ANTD.VN - According to the General Statistics Office, this is the time when livestock farmers focus on restocking livestock and poultry in preparation for the Lunar New Year, but pig farming is facing difficulties due to low pork prices.
The drop in live pig prices makes it difficult to restore herds to prepare food for Tet. |
The General Statistics Office said that food prices in October 2023 decreased by 0.14% compared to the previous month, mainly due to a 1.41% decrease in pork prices, causing the overall CPI to decrease by 0.05 percentage points.
As of October 25, 2023, the price of live pigs nationwide fluctuated between 48,000 - 54,000 VND/kg.
The outbreak of African swine fever in some areas has caused people to sell large quantities of pigs to the market, while purchasing power has not improved much because people have been saving on spending, so retail prices have decreased. As a result, the price of animal fat decreased by 1.33% compared to the previous month; roast meat, ham, and sausage decreased by 0.3%; other processed meat decreased by 0.03%.
The agency said that in October, livestock and poultry farming developed stably, and diseases were basically under control. Currently, it is the time for livestock farmers to focus on restocking, increasing herds, and taking care of livestock and poultry to supply meat to the market in the last months of the year and the upcoming holidays. However, pig farming is facing difficulties due to low pork prices while input costs are high, and African swine fever has returned to some localities.
To stabilize the domestic meat production and consumption market, the General Statistics Office recommends that it is necessary to resolutely implement many measures and policies at the same time to combat speculation and price manipulation, ensure the rights of livestock farmers and consumers; prevent and control epidemics, effectively organize vaccination; monitor, detect and promptly handle newly emerging outbreaks; strictly handle cases of illegal buying, selling and transporting of pigs of unknown origin, increasing the risk of infection and spread of dangerous diseases in domestic pig herds.
As of October 23, 2023, blue ear disease is still in Quang Binh; avian influenza is still in Binh Duong and Long An; foot and mouth disease is still in Cao Bang and Dong Nai; lumpy skin disease is still in Quang Nam, Dak Lak, Lam Dong and Tien Giang and African swine fever is still in 24 localities that have not passed 21 days.
The consumer price index (CPI) in October 2023 increased slightly by 0.08% compared to the previous month due to some localities increasing tuition fees and domestic rice prices increasing following export prices. Compared to December 2022, the CPI in October increased by 3.2% and compared to the same period last year increased by 3.59%. On average, in the first 10 months of 2023, the CPI increased by 3.2% compared to the same period last year; core inflation increased by 4.38%.
