The price of gladiolus has dropped to only about 35,000 - 45,000 VND/bunch (only half of the price of Tet flowers in 2023), causing flower growers in Hiep An commune (Duc Trong district, Lam Dong province) to only make a profit of 7 million VND/sao.

According to the reporter's records on the days leading up to Lunar New Year, the price of gladiolus flowers in the country's largest gladiolus flower village in Hiep An commune, Duc Trong district is only about 35,000 VND/bunch. This selling price of gladiolus flowers is only about half of the price of the 2023 Tet flower crop.
Currently, people in Hiep An commune are still harvesting gladiolus flowers to sell to traders and flower warehouses. Up to now, hundreds of refrigerated trucks from the Central and Northern regions have poured into Hiep An commune to transport flowers for consumption.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Thoai, a flower grower in Dinh Anh village, Hiep An commune, said that with 1,000 m2, his family can grow about 25,000 gladiolus plants and harvest about 20,000 plants. With a price of 30,000 - 40,000 VND/bunch, flower growers will earn about 7 million VND/sao after deducting all expenses. Mr. Thoai explained that although the 2024 Tet flower crop is a good season, the price is a bit low, the price of fertilizer and labor is high. Therefore, flower growers will spend more on production costs.
Mr. Thoai also said that at this time in 2022 and 2023, the price of gladiolus flowers will be up to 60,000 VND/bunch, even up to 80,000-100,000 VND/bunch.
Mr. Thoai's family specializes in growing gladiolus, and during the Tet flower season, Mr. Thoai's family often rents more land to grow gladiolus. Mr. Thoai also said that this year, gladiolus plants have been affected by silver leaf disease, which makes the flowers look unattractive. Although there are still flowers, growers do not harvest them.
The high cost of labor for harvesting and caring for gladiolus and fertilizer also makes flower growers earn little profit in the 2024 Tet gladiolus crop.
In 2024, the entire Hiep An commune will have about 180 hectares of land for growing gladiolus, with a yield of about 20,000 branches/sao. In addition, people will also grow about 60 hectares of gladiolus bulbs.
Gladiolus flowers are arranged and bundled before being loaded onto refrigerated trucks to be transported to provinces across the country before the Kitchen Gods' worship day.
Many refrigerated trucks are waiting at Hiep An commune to receive flowers for transportation across the country. Due to the high volume of traffic along National Highway 20 through Hiep An commune, and the number of vehicles coming to receive flowers has increased in the past few days, the People's Committee of Hiep An commune and the Traffic Safety Committee have regularly patrolled and reminded traders, farmers and drivers not to encroach on the roadside and to drive carefully.
