Factors affecting price
Pork supply has decreased as farms in the North have reduced their herds to prepare for restocking after Tet, along with high farming costs in the Central and Central Highlands regions.
On the occasion of Lunar New Year, the demand for pork consumption in big cities increases sharply.
A positive signal comes from Quang Tri, where the project to treat livestock wastewater using biotechnology has just been approved by the Provincial People's Committee, helping to reduce costs for livestock farmers.
It is expected that pig prices will remain high in December and may continue to increase around the Lunar New Year 2025.
At the seminar on the morning of December 3 with the theme "Solutions for developing organic pig farming, biosafety contributes to sustainable livestock farming development", Mr. Duong Cong Hoan, Deputy Head of the Livestock Environment Department, Department of Livestock Production affirmed: "In the face of complicated developments of infectious diseases, the application of biosafety and organic livestock farming is extremely urgent for the sustainable development of the livestock industry", according to VNA.
Development direction in pig farming
Livestock farming households are encouraged to reduce emissions and apply circular economic models to increase production value. At the same time, it is necessary to find alternative protein sources from microbial biomass, seaweed or insects.
The livestock industry is promoting digital transformation, enhancing agricultural extension communication, and shifting thinking from production to livestock economics to better manage waste and build a circular economic model combined with tourism.
Pig farming continues to be identified as a key economic sector, shifting from small-scale to large-scale, concentrated farming, towards biosafety and organic farming.
Many farm models have been established, contributing to the development of livestock value chains. Agricultural extension activities, especially in organic pig farming, are being expanded to achieve the goal of sustainable development and long-term effectiveness.
