DNVN - The price of live pigs continued to increase slightly today in some northern provinces. According to a survey, the current price fluctuates between 60,000 and 64,000 VND/kg nationwide.

The North continues to lead the upward trend.

Pig price on December 2, 2024: Stable at high price

In the Northern region, the price of live pigs today continued to increase slightly compared to the previous day, fluctuating between 61,000 - 63,000 VND/kg.

Specifically, pork prices in Bac Giang and Hanoi increased by one price, reaching 63,000 VND/kg, equal to those in Hung Yen, Hai Duong, Phu Tho and Thai Binh provinces. Yen Bai, Vinh Phuc, Ha Nam and Nam Dinh provinces also recorded price increases, reaching 62,000 VND/kg.

Central Highlands maintains growth momentum

The Central Highlands region today witnessed price adjustments in Ha Tinh and Nghe An, reaching VND61,000/kg and VND62,000/kg, respectively.

In general, the price of live pigs here ranges from 60,000 to 63,000 VND/kg, of which Lam Dong recorded the highest price in the region, at 63,000 VND/kg.

Southern market continues to thrive

In the South, live pig prices continued to increase in Binh Duong and An Giang, with trading prices reaching 63,000 VND/kg.

Traders in this area are buying live pigs at prices ranging from 61,000 to 64,000 VND/kg, with the highest price of 64,000 VND/kg appearing in Kien Giang. However, Tien Giang and Tra Vinh still maintain the lowest price in the region, at 61,000 VND/kg.

The domestic pig farming industry is currently facing many opportunities and difficulties. African swine fever (ASF) is still complicated, affecting the total herd and pork production. However, consumption demand is expected to increase during the Lunar New Year, along with reduced feed costs, creating momentum for the industry to recover.

According to Agromonitor, African swine fever has caused the total sow herd to decrease by 11% this year. Of which, enterprises have decreased by 5% to 7%, while household farms have decreased sharply by 12% to 15%. As a result, pork output for sale has decreased by about 20%, causing the price of live pigs to increase sharply in the first half of the year.

Although high prices bring good profits, diseases are still a big problem, especially ASF. Many farms have been forced to sell all their pigs and start to rebuild their herds from the middle or end of the second quarter of 2024, leading to a supply that cannot be stabilized immediately.

With better disease control and increased consumption during the holiday season, the pig farming industry is showing positive signs of recovery. Pig prices are forecast to remain high, bringing profits to farmers. However, close monitoring is needed to ensure stable supply and avoid disease risks.

According to Son La Newspaper, Mai Son district currently has about 194,000 cattle, with more than 11,000 households raising them.

Mr. Nguyen Khac Hao, Head of the District's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said: "Before this winter, more than 85% of livestock households had built barns that met cold-proof standards. People also planted about 800 hectares of elephant grass and stored agricultural by-products as animal feed during the cold season."

In addition, the district has deployed 630 doses of African swine fever vaccine, 26,700 doses of foot-and-mouth disease, 180 doses of septicemia, 2,770 doses of anthrax and sprayed 1,418 liters of disinfectant chemicals to prevent epidemics.

Faced with complex weather developments, local authorities are directing increased measures to protect livestock, while closely monitoring to promptly detect and handle new outbreaks, avoiding losses to farmers.
