DNVN - On the morning of February 19, 2025, the price of live pigs across the country continued to adjust upward in all three regions. The latest survey recorded prices ranging from 69,000 - 74,000 VND/kg.
Northern pig price
In the North, the price of live pigs in the morning session of February 19 increased slightly in two localities, Hai Duong and Hung Yen, reaching 72,000 VND/kg. This is also the highest price in the region.
In the remaining provinces and cities, the price does not have much difference, currently fluctuating from 70,000 - 71,000 VND/kg.
Pig price in Central Highlands
In the Central Highlands region, live pig prices continued to increase in Thanh Hoa and Lam Dong, reaching VND 71,000/kg and VND 73,000/kg, respectively.
In addition, the price of live pigs in Dak Lak and Ninh Thuan increased by VND2,000/kg, bringing the price to VND72,000/kg. In other provinces in the region, the price of live pigs remained stable at around VND69,000 - VND72,000/kg.
Southern pig price
The live hog market in the Southern region is still on an upward trend this morning. Notably, the highest price in the region has reached 74,000 VND/kg in Dong Nai and Ben Tre.
In addition, some other localities also recorded increasing prices, in which Ho Chi Minh City, An Giang and Vinh Long reached 73,000 VND/kg, while Kien Giang traded at 72,000 VND/kg. Currently, traders in the region are purchasing live pigs at around 72,000 - 74,000 VND/kg.
Vice President of Dong Nai Livestock Association, Mr. Nguyen Kim Doan, said that this price increase was caused by African swine fever that occurred at the end of 2024. The epidemic forced many farms to sell pigs early, reducing supply in the market.
At Hoc Mon and Binh Dien wholesale markets (Ho Chi Minh City), the number of pigs coming to the market has decreased sharply, currently only about 3,000 - 3,500 pigs/day, while the normal consumption level is 7,000 pigs/day. However, forecasts show that supply will recover when farms increase herd restoration and apply effective epidemic prevention measures.
The leader of BaF Vietnam Agricultural Joint Stock Company warned that the price of live pigs in the country is currently higher than in neighboring countries such as China, Thailand and Cambodia. This could increase the risk of smuggling, affecting the domestic market.
According to a report from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hung Yen province, during the recent Lunar New Year, the whole province sold about 70,000 - 78,000 pigs, accounting for 13 - 15% of the total herd, corresponding to a meat output of 9,000 - 10,200 tons; 2 - 2.2 million poultry, equivalent to 22 - 24% of the total herd, for a meat output of 4,800 - 5,500 tons; 2,800 - 3,000 buffaloes and cows, corresponding to 8 - 9% of the total herd, for a meat output of 1,500 - 1,700 tons, according to Hung Yen Newspaper.
Currently, farms and livestock households in the province have fully prepared conditions to restore herds to stabilize the market.
