PTI. India and South Korea will start a new round of negotiations from January 30-31 in New Delhi to upgrade the bilateral Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
MINT. India and Saudi Arabia have begun a joint military exercise called “Sada Tanseeq” in Rajasthan, aimed at promoting interaction and friendship between the two militaries, which is scheduled to conclude on February 10.
KATHMANDU POST. The border issue between Nepal and India should be resolved on the basis of political consensus, Nepalese Foreign Minister NP Saud said at an event in Kathmandu on the occasion of India's Republic Day,
DAWN. A Pakistani court has sentenced former Prime Minister Imran Khan to 10 years in prison for "revealing state secrets".
BANGKOK POSTt. Thai police seized more than 14,000 counterfeit and illegally imported cosmetic products worth 3.6 million baht (over $101,900) after a surprise inspection of a warehouse in Lat Krabang district, Bangkok.
AL ARABIYA. Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh said the group had received a ceasefire proposal after talks in Paris and would study it.
ARAB NEWS. The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Energy has asked Aramco to maintain crude oil production at 12 million barrels per day , abandoning its previous plan to increase production.

EURO NEWS. The EU Council decided to extend economic sanctions against Russia for another 6 months until 31 July 2024.
AFP. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has confirmed he is ready to soften his stance on a proposed EU aid package for Ukraine from the bloc's budget ahead of an emergency summit this week.
REUTERS. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu to discuss the conflict in Ukraine, the situation in the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East and the Korean peninsula.
IOM. Since the beginning of 2024, nearly 100 migrants have died or gone missing in the Central and Eastern Mediterranean, more than double the number recorded in the same period last year.
FRANCE 24. The French economy will grow by 0.9% in 2023, but stagnate in the last two quarters of the year, according to the latest official figures from the French statistics agency (INSEE).
TASS. The share of Russian national currency payments with BRICS countries has increased to 85%, according to the Director of the Central Bank of Russia Elvira Nabiullina.
AFP. Over the past five years, the “ Yes we Plant ” tree-planting campaign in Belgium’s Wallonia region has greened nearly 4,200 km of fences and planted 1.4 million trees.
America
NBC NEWS. The US has warned it will reimpose sanctions on Venezuela's oil industry after several key opposition candidates were barred from running for president.
CNN. The United States and China have established a joint anti-drug working group, the first public sign of cooperation in efforts to stop the spread of fentanyl since late 2019.
CBC. The Canadian government announced the lifting of restrictions on arms exports to Türkiye, after the Turkish President ratified the protocol on Sweden's accession to NATO.
ABS-CBN NEWS. Colombian authorities seized 130 venomous Harlequin frogs smuggled through the airport in the country's capital Bogota and arrested a Brazilian woman in connection with the case.
AP. The Colombian government and the National Liberation Army (ELN) armed group have agreed to extend by one week a six-month bilateral ceasefire.
Africa
AFRICA NEWS. The African Union (AU) has called for dialogue between the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and three countries, Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso, which have just announced they will leave the bloc.
NEWS24. The Durban Court (South Africa) has for the first time brought to trial the subjects accused of being the masterminds of the unrest and public violence in July 2021 that led to many serious consequences in this country.
WITHIN NIGERIA. Suspected jihadists have killed 22 people in an attack on the village of Motogatta in western Niger, near the border with Mali.
WOSA. South Africa's wine exports are set to fall by 17% to 306 million litres by 2023, according to the latest report from the Wine Organisation of South Africa (WoSA).
OCHA. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said it needs $1.6 billion to meet the needs of 5.2 million people in Somalia in 2024, down nearly 40% from 2023.
Oceania
ABC. The Australian Border Force (ABF) has seized more than 13 tonnes of single-use e-cigarette (vape) products en route to Adelaide, South Australia.

REUTERS. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has declared Australia the “security partner of choice” for neighbouring Papua New Guinea, after the Pacific island nation acknowledged China was seeking a security deal.
SBS. The Australian government plans to invest 70 million AUD ($46.23 million) to develop the Townsville Hydro Hub in Queensland to promote Australia as a renewable energy powerhouse.
NZ HERALD. New Zealand is one of the first countries to ban the use of persistent organic chemicals (PFAS) in cosmetics, starting from the end of 2026.
