Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City is the 4th busiest domestic route in the world with more than 10 million seats available in 2023.
This information has just been announced by OAG, the world's leading organization specializing in monitoring and statistics on tourism and aviation. This organization compiles statistics on the world's busiest flight routes according to the seat capacity index.
According to this statistic, the flight route from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City of Vietnam ranked 4th with about 10.9 million seats. Compared to last year, this flight route dropped one place but still increased by 3%, and compared to before the pandemic, it increased by 6%.
Since 2017, Vietnam has continuously been in the top 10 markets with the busiest domestic routes in the world with the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route.
Currently, 5 domestic airlines including Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet, Bamboo Airways, Pacific Airlines, Vietravel Airlines all operate this route with about 60 round trips per day.
Of which, Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet operate the most with over 20 round-trip flights each on weekdays.
According to statistics from the Civil Aviation Authority, in 2023, the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route will carry more than 9 million passengers, accounting for 22% of domestic passengers. On average, for every 5 domestic passengers, there is one passenger flying on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route or vice versa.
Asia's skies have become the world's busiest, with nine out of the top 10 domestic routes making the list.
The top flight route is Jeju to Gimpo (Seoul) with 13.7 million seats offered. The second is the Fukuoka to Haneda (Tokyo) route with 11.2 million seats last year. The third place of the Vietnamese route this year is the Sapporo to Haneda (Tokyo) route with 11.9 million seats offered.
The only non-Asian route in the world's top 10 busiest domestic routes is Melbourne - Sydney with 9.3 million seats, ranking 5th.
