On the evening of August 1, the People's Committee of Nam Tra My district, Quang Nam province held the opening ceremony of the 6th Ngoc Linh ginseng festival - 2024.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Ho Quang Buu - Vice Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee - said that Ngoc Linh ginseng is a particularly rare medicinal plant of Vietnam, currently distributed mainly in Nam Tra My district of Quang Nam province and Tu Mo Rong district of Kon Tum province. This plant is considered "green gold" that nature has bestowed, and has been recognized as a national product since 2017.
Following the success of previous Ngoc Linh ginseng festivals, the 6th Ngoc Linh ginseng festival - 2024, with the theme "Ngoc Linh - Forever proud", taking place from August 1 - 3, is an opportunity to promote and introduce to domestic and foreign friends about the "national treasure" Ngoc Linh ginseng, comparable to other ginsengs in the world such as Korean ginseng, American ginseng, Russian ginseng, Canadian ginseng...
At this festival, there are also many trade activities, cultural and artistic performances, and traditional games typical of ethnic minorities.
In particular, the first Ngoc Linh ginseng auction program was organized, attracting 11 individuals and ginseng growing units to participate. There were 14 giant ginseng trees, from 5 to 15 years old, with high value, brought to auction, raising more than 361 million VND, supporting the work of eliminating temporary houses in Nam Tra My district.
Mr. Nguyen Duy Dung - Chairman of Nam Tra My District People's Committee - said that Quang Nam province has planned a ginseng growing area in the district with an area of over 15,000 hectares; conserved about 100 hectares, equivalent to about 2 million trees and developed a ginseng material area of over 1,650 hectares with more than 1,500 households participating in planting; attracted 18 businesses to register to grow ginseng under the forest canopy, with an area of over 341.75 hectares.
Growing Ngoc Linh ginseng and developing the economy always go hand in hand with protecting and developing forests, because ginseng only lives under the canopy of primary forests, Mr. Dung emphasized.
In order to effectively implement the Project on conservation and development of Ngoc Linh ginseng - Vietnamese ginseng until 2030 approved by the Prime Minister; making Ngoc Linh ginseng a strategic plant, eliminating hunger and reducing poverty for people in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Nam province called for resources from the Central, local, business community and people to soon bring Ngoc Linh ginseng to the world, worthy of being a national product.
