Despite geopolitical turmoil, many Middle Eastern countries are seeing an increase in international visitors, especially Chinese tourists.
Middle East tourism is becoming an increasingly popular destination for Chinese tourists. |
The tense situation in the Gaza Strip and the Red Sea has caused a significant decrease in the number of tourists to Middle Eastern countries. However, recently, the wave of international tourists, especially Chinese tourists, flocking to this region has made the tourism market extremely vibrant.
On June 14, Tunisia granted visa-free entry to Iranian and Iraqi tourists, effective June 15. The Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced a visa exemption for Iraqi ordinary passport holders for tourism purposes. The exemption allows stays of up to 15 days at a time within a six-month period. Visitors must present a valid hotel reservation and a return ticket.
“Iranian ordinary passport holders will also be granted visa-free entry to Tunisia from June 15,” the statement said, without providing further details.
The Iraqi Foreign Ministry welcomed Tunisia's decision, saying it would boost the number of Iraqi tourists visiting Tunisia and strengthen economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
In the excitement of Middle Eastern tourism, we cannot fail to mention Chinese tourists, when this region suddenly shined again, becoming a "hot" tourist destination for a huge number of customers from the most populous country in the world.
During the recent Lunar New Year holiday, tours from China to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Egypt and Morocco tripled compared to the same period in 2023, with bookings to Dubai alone increasing by more than 10%.
In addition to campaigns to promote tourism to Chinese tourists, countries such as Egypt, Jordan, the UAE, and Iran have also implemented short-term visa or visa-free programs and simplified entry procedures. In addition, many Middle Eastern countries have taken proactive steps to increase the number of direct flights to China.
Thanks to the appeal of interesting destinations, hospitable tourism environment and gradually deepening diplomatic relations with China, Middle Eastern countries have become increasingly popular destinations for Chinese tourists when choosing to travel abroad.
Many tourism industry experts predict that the number of Chinese tourists to the Middle East is expected to increase sharply thanks to the increasingly strong relationship between Beijing and Middle Eastern countries.
