Unexpected thunderstorm at night in Bac Kan

Ms. Xuan said that at around 11:20 pm on April 17, a tornado suddenly appeared. At that time, she and her two children were sleeping on the second floor of the house roofed with fibro cement. The sound of something being thrown around on the roof startled her awake.
"When I discovered that the fiber cement sheets on the roof were being lifted by the wind, and the debris was falling to the ground, I hugged my two children and ran downstairs to avoid any human casualties. At that time, I was really scared, because when the storm appeared, the power was also out, the whole house was dark and the wind was getting stronger and stronger. The roof was completely blown away by the wind, I was only worried that the children would be hit by the fiber cement pieces or the roof beams and rafters. Luckily, the three of us were fine," Ms. Xuan added.

Like Ms. Xuan, Hoang Khanh Ly (Thai Binh village, Quan Ha commune, Bach Thong district, Bac Kan province) recalled that at around 11:30 pm on April 17, while she was sleeping, a thunderstorm appeared and caused the roof of her house to be blown off. Although it did not fall apart because the roof was covered with corrugated iron, the pouring rain made her very scared, and all the furniture in the house was soaked.
Hoang Khanh Ly added that in addition to the main house, her family has an old house that is currently used as a warehouse, with a roof made of fibro cement, so it is all broken. Ly said that today is a day off, so the whole family is still working together to clean up and fix it.
Support people after storms
Speaking with Dan Viet reporter, Mr. Hoang Van Kiem, Vice Chairman of Bach Thong District People's Committee, said that the tornado on the night of April 17 only lasted about 1 hour but left quite serious consequences for the people of Bach Thong District.

"Early this morning, the District Party Secretary and we went to the damaged areas in the district. Professionals are also carrying out the work of counting and calculating the damage to have a direction to support and help people after the natural disaster" - Mr. Kiem added.

According to a quick report from the People's Committee of Bach Thong district, the storm on the night of April 17 affected 256 houses (of which 255 had their roofs blown off, 1 house collapsed), and 19.12 hectares of crops were damaged.
The storm also caused an electric pole to fall in Quan village, a greenhouse to be damaged in Nguyen Phuc commune, and two roofing sheets to fall off the Khuoi Dam village cultural house (Cam Giang commune). In addition, 70m2 of corrugated iron roofing of Duong Phong Primary and Secondary School was broken, and the roof of Quang Thuan Commune People's Committee collapsed.
"The most severely damaged areas include the communes of Quan Ha, Quang Thuan, and Tan Tu. We will continue to update new data," said the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Bach Thong district.
It is known that the Secretary of Bach Thong District Party Committee, Do Thi Hien, has directed the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and organizations to send cadres to the villages to help people. Bach Thong District has directed the military and police forces to send people to help people overcome the consequences of natural disasters. At the same time, the district has also directed the People's Committees of communes to use the commune budget reserve to buy tarpaulins for households whose roofs were completely blown off, helping people have shelter while waiting for repairs.
