Many scientists inside and outside the city attended the scientific conference "Trang Trinh Nguyen Binh Khiem and Vietnamese history in the 16th century"
(Haiphong.gov.vn) - On November 22, at the City Convention Center, the UNESCO Campaign Committee to honor Trang Trinh Nguyen Binh Khiem on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of his death (1585 - 2035) organized a scientific workshop "Trang Trinh Nguyen Binh Khiem and the history of Vietnam in the 16th century". Attending the workshop were Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Khac Nam, Head of the Campaign Committee; along with representatives of leaders of relevant departments, branches, localities and scientists, research experts in the field.
Hai Phong is the hometown of many outstanding scholars in history, such as Trang Nguyen Le Ich Moc, Trang Nguyen Tran Tat, Trang Trinh Nguyen Binh Khiem... Among them, Trang Trinh Nguyen Binh Khiem, the Trang Nguyen of the Mac Dynasty in the 16th century, whose name and stature still resonates in the following centuries and to this day.
In recent years, the government and people of Hai Phong city have had specific activities and actions to preserve, conserve and honor the heritages left by Trang Trinh Nguyen Binh Khiem. Hai Phong has organized many scientific seminars on his life, career and contributions to national history. Planning, renovating and embellishing the special national relic of Nguyen Binh Khiem Temple; including the Trang Trinh Temple festival in the list of national intangible cultural heritages... In the 4-volume Hai Phong History book, published in 2021, the chapter on the Mac Dynasty, researchers have dedicated a section to introduce the life and career of Trang Trinh Nguyen Binh Khiem; published publications, named streets and public works after Nguyen Binh Khiem.
In particular, in order to recognize and honor him, the great poet, thinker, teacher of all time, and cultural celebrity, the People's Committee of Hai Phong City has decided to establish a UNESCO Campaign Committee to honor Trang Trinh Nguyen Binh Khiem, on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of the death of the celebrity (1585-2035), affirming the great stature of Trang Trinh Nguyen Binh Khiem not only domestically but also internationally.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Khac Nam affirmed that the scientific workshop "Trang Trinh Nguyen Binh Khiem and the history of Vietnam in the 16th century" is a meaningful activity, part of the program of activities of the UNESCO Campaign Committee to honor Trang Trinh Nguyen Binh Khiem. The workshop gathered a large number of scientists, Central and City delegates, aiming to continue to affirm and recognize the merits and contributions of Trang Trinh Nguyen Binh Khiem to the history of the nation. The results of the workshop will be scientific arguments, reliable historical documents, contributing to a more in-depth recognition and assessment of the life and career of Trang Trinh Nguyen Binh Khiem and the legacies he left for the nation.
The workshop was chaired by Prof. Dr. Vu Minh Giang, Vice President of the Vietnam Historical Science Association, President of the Science and Training Council of Hanoi National University, Member of the UNESCO Campaign Committee; Dr. Tran Thi Hoang Mai, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports; Dr. Bui Thanh Tung, President of the Hai Phong Union of Science and Technology Associations.
The workshop received 25 presentations from scientists and managers from many agencies and units inside and outside the city with the content consisting of 3 main parts: The context of Dai Viet in the 16th century; the homeland, life and career of Nguyen Binh Khiem; Nguyen Binh Khiem with political, diplomatic, cultural and educational issues; Documents and cultural heritage related to Nguyen Binh Khiem. Thereby, it mentioned many different aspects of Nguyen Binh Khiem in Vietnamese history, contributing to raising scientific awareness and solving practical requirements when researching the cultural celebrity Trang Trinh Nguyen Binh Khiem.
