At this time, the 2024 cashew crop in the highland commune of La Da, Ham Thuan Bac district is entering the peak harvest period. Compared to last year, this year's cashew trees have stable yields, the purchase price of cashew nuts has increased, and local people are very excited.
Mr. Xim Mien - Chairman of La Da Commune People's Committee said that the locality has a fairly large cashew growing area of over 540 hectares, of which more than 100 hectares are replanted and are in the growing stage, not yet harvested. This year, cashews flowered simultaneously, the fruit set rate was high, so the yield was stable, with 2 - 2.5 tons of seeds/ha, equal to the cashew crop in 2023. The reason for the stable cashew yield is thanks to the local government's attention to coordinating with functional agencies to mobilize and guide people to apply advanced techniques in the care stage; especially increasing fertilization and spraying during the flowering stage, contributing to increasing the fruit set rate and seed weight...
“Not only is the yield stable, the purchase price of cashew nuts this year has increased slightly, so people are very excited. Since the beginning of the harvest season, traders have come to the garden to buy at prices ranging from 26 - 27,000 VND/kg of nuts, an increase of 1,000 VND/kg compared to 2023. With this price, plus the actual yield per hectare, people earn from 52 - 67 million VND, minus expenses, there is still a fairly high profit...”. Mr. Xim Mien - Chairman of the People's Committee of La Da commune shared more. For the highland commune of La Da, cashew is one of the traditional crops, long associated with local ethnic minorities. Before 2020, cashew productivity was always unstable because people did not pay attention to investing in care, some old areas were not replanted, leading to low yields, reduced income, and more difficult lives for people. Although this year's cashew crop yield is not too high and the price increase is not significant, it is enough to improve the income of the people, helping them have more conditions to invest in care, garden renovation, and replanting old cashew areas so that this strong crop can generate profit and provide stable income in the following crops.
