On June 8, the Portuguese women's team announced a list of 23 players preparing for the 2023 World Cup.

It is worth mentioning that the biggest women's football festival on the planet is still nearly 2 months away from starting and this action by the Portuguese women's team surprised many people.
In the list of players, the current Portuguese champions, Benfica, contributed the most with 9 names. Following were Braga (4), Sporting Lisbon (3) and Maritimo (1).
The remaining 6 players are playing abroad for Sevilla, Alaves, Real Sociedad, Levante (Spain), Parma (Italy) and Servette (Switzerland).
Meanwhile, Huynh Nhu's Lank FC club did not have any names called up to join the Portuguese women's team.
At the 2023 World Cup, the Iberian team has many veteran names such as the defensive trio Carole Costa, Ana Borges and Silvia Rebelo (playing a total of 427 matches for the national team).
The midfield has midfielder Dolores Silva (31 years old) who has played 146 matches for the Portuguese women's team or young talent Kika Nazareth.
Up front, Portugal has a prominent name, Jessica Silva, who has made 97 appearances and scored 14 goals for the national team. She is also the first female Portuguese player to win the Champions League.
At this year's tournament, coach Francisco Neto and his team will face the Netherlands women's team (July 23), Vietnam (July 27) and the US (August 1).
